So my G was hit while stopped at a stop sign earlier. Nothing too serious, cracked bumper, scratched paint. The other driver said she didn't see any damage! lol I called the local police and they didn't want to be bothered with a report since both vehicles were drivable. Of course she didn't have an insurance card, but insisted the vehicle was insured. How would you guys deal it? Give the driver a chance to call me with her info or just call my ins co. and get a claim started? The car has never be involved in an accident until now and I hate the idea of it showing on a Carfax.
Is it worth asking about diminished value, since I know it's going to come up when I eventually plan to sell/trade? I'm not upside down(paid for) but rather not lose any more to depreciation then I have to.
Should I just turn it in and move on? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!
Just went through this with the wife's G. Rear ended by a kid with no insurance info, no plates on his car, and presented an expired California ID instead of a valid driver's license.
Go to your insurance company and get them going on it. Because the damage is to the rear of your vehicle there should be no question of fault. Our company (Farmers) took care of us, allowed us to bring it to a body shop of our choice, at our request sent the money to us so we could repair it as we saw fit (OEM instead of aftermarket parts), and even refunded our high deductible in the end.
The time and effort involved is a pain in the *** but hopefully your experience will be smooth and you'll be happy with the end results.
