Q40 AWD - What else is missing?

Hey everyone,

I'm shopping for either a G37x or Q40 AWD sedan. I've found 3 G37s and 2 Q40s in my area that are low miles. I was leaning towards the Q40s I've found in my area just because they have more time left on the original factory warranty than the G37xs. Now I've noticed that there are a few things missing from the Q40.

So far I've found the Q40 lacks:
1) Power adjustment of steering wheel (it's manual now and the telescoping adjustment requires pretty heavy input)
2) Memory presets for seat position, steering wheel and power mirrors
3) Rear sonar parking system

I don't think any of these things are deal killers, but is there anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks,
Eric

Very odd that they would remove those features. iirc, all G's didn't come with sonar and maybe not the memory seats as well, but the lack of power wheel adjustment is really interesting. It makes sense though, given that it's in the same system as the memory seats.

Thanks for the replies.
Helikido, when I first heard about the Q40 I didn't think it had anything different except for the fact you could no longer get the Sport or Interior Trim packages. I had favored it since it was newer and the cars generally have more time left on the factory warranties. Checking the internet I didn't find that much information about it. It was only when I sat in a Q40 for the first time and went to adjust the steering wheel that I noticed the difference.
Jeezer, I believe the sonar and memory seats were part of the Premium Package, along with a sunroof in the G37x's. A Q40 I saw recently had the sunroof, but not the other things I mentioned. So it looks like they didn't just change what packages were available, but the contents of those packages. Either that or they simply removed the Premium package and made some things go away and others become standalone options. Not sure, but it looks like I'm a G37x shopper now, not an either/or shopper.

From experience, avoid later model years that tend be stripped out or modified to be "cheaper". That will get annoying quickly as start to notice things missing from your car that aren't in other model years with the same package. As long as you go with a 2011+ model, everything will be almost identical. Aim for a sport package, as that really changes how the car handles .

RWD Sport, yes. AWD Sport, no.

And the only things the RWD Sport Package brought that affect how the car handles are are Tokico Dampers, a thicker rear sway bar, close ratio steering and staggered 18" wheels. Other than the steering rack, these are all things you can (and probably should) upgrade on an X.

Did the Q40 make the moonroof optional, or was that the G25?

According to Edmunds the moonroof was made a standalone option as opposed to part of the premium package.

Don't forget the Akebonos, brakes make a difference but can be retrofitted on an xS I guess.

It's sad what Infiniti did with the Q40.

Other than leaving out some prior-package options, are there any reliability concerns with the Q40 vs the G37? Just curious about longevity and overall reliability. I would think they're the same.

Hard to say, really. I double-checked Consumer Reports last night and they have no data for the Q40. I wouldn't necessarily assume it's the same as there is variation across the years for the 2009 - 2013 models. As I recall 2009 - 2011 models got a rating of 5/5 (higher numbers being better). The 2012s are a 3 and the 2013s are a 4. I don't look at the JD Power numbers since I don't know how they're formulated and I don't believe they cover a range of years.
