Porsche makes great cars, but they are expensive and built to stay that way. While they are among the most reliable true sports cars, maintenance and parts are very spendy. So is insurance. They are quite a bit upmarket from the G37, so in a sense not really comparable.
Yeah they are affordable now. I bought my E a few couple years back. Its a great roomy and comfortable car. Its no means a fast car but it can pick up speed pretty quick. A stock G or Q50 3.7 or even 3.0t can't pass it up on the freeway if you want something to compare. From a stand still it can be slower or about the same when in sport mode but that will depend on the driver as well. But this car is not a race car. The thing weighs like 4,200 lbs. Handling is actually pretty good. Its better than the 5 series in my opinion and the GS350 non F-Sport by far. The steering wheel will tighten up once you gain speed; around 40 mph. The best thing is the gas mileage. I used to hate driving my G. I would only get 17 mpg with it. LOL. I avg about 24 mpg with my E and about 430 miles per tank. If you are wondering about reliability, I have never had any issues with it. Not one and I have about 82k miles on it. Its actually more reliable than my G within the same amount of mileage.

Mercedes makes cars that are very pretty and can be fun to drive. Reliability is poor, however; among the least reliable cars made, overall - according to Consumer Reports etc.
Mercedes actually didn't do that bad, hanging in the middle of the pack at number 14. That's ahead of Acura, VW, Tesla, Cadillac, etc... Very surprised to see Audi so high up on the list and BMW.
Lego has the second most posts in this thread, right behind the OP. So it's worthy to note he just sold his 6MT Sedan and purchased a VW Golf R.

Just saying. Waiting for pics and that first review.

Cool! I am curious to see what he thinks. I really like that car, but it would fit my needs a lot better if the rumors are true about the next generation having 400hp, fixed caliper brakes, and more geared toward performance. I saw an article yesterday that for $2,500 VW will allow you to pick from 20 custom colors for the Golf R like Audi has been doing. That's pretty cool.

Anyway....
This weekend: homelink mirror, blendmount, hardwired v1, STS and weighted shift ****
Next weekend: clear bra and tint
Nice, I'll be looking forward to reading your thoughts as you get to know the car. My wife has been driving a 2015 GTI for the last 9 months, and I enjoy it enough that I could consider a Golf R for myself when the time comes if the slightly more sporting intentions overcome the GTI's shortcomings in that area. I think yours really wears that shade of blue well. Great looking car!
The wheels you have now... they're like my Vossens, but exaggerated to the point of looking silly. If Beetlejuice had custom 10-spokes, they'd look like that.
That wheel right there is gorgeous. Oh man, so much better. Maybe you can negotiate with your dealership for a swap?

What's funny is everyone in my personal orbit whose seen the car, loves the wheels

It's crazy.
