Hell, if the next one is a dud, you might make some money.

If you want analog though, why not stick with the G? Big NA V6, hydraulic steering, stickshift, RWD. Aside from the weight reduction and newness, I don't see the upsides. Not saying there aren't any, I'm just curious as to what they are.

 

Good balance, limited slip, beautiful brakes... it's a hell of a package, that's true.

 

It's just not getting any newer lol. 6 Years is a long time for me to keep a car

I don't want to get to a point where there isn't a 6MT-4door-RWD/AWD option under $40K, and I'm afraid that is where the market is headed.

 

There should still be a few decent options. Just off the top of my head:

A4 quattro
330i
ATS
Genesis G70

If you include hatches there are a few more good options (Golf R, Focus RS)

But they all have the same problem for me....

Just bought this 18’ Lexus IS 300 F Sport. NOT to replace my G, but as my new daily driver. Haha.

 

I'm hesitant to go with a german car for something I want to keep 6-7 years. And 252 HP (Audi) and 248 HP (330) they seem unimpressive on paper at least. I configured a 330 M-Sport and came out to $51K with leather, harmon kardon and navigation.

Maybe I should check out the ATS, but it seems like the STI would be more fun to drive and would hold it's value better.

G70 is a consideration and I'll check it out when it finally gets released.

Foucs RS has the most horrid seating position I've ever experiences, and in browsing the forums, seem plagued with head gasket issues.

I was originally focused on the Golf R, but the GTI I drove was meh, and while I figure the Golf R will be faster and have better traction, I have a hard time getting excited about it. Seems like the STI would be the more fun of the two, and there is always the question of German reliability.

I'm going to enjoy the G for another year or so, and see what is on the horizon this time next year, but I came away from the STI drive feeling good about it.

 

I think I'm going to take the gamble on a German car once I'm done with the G, which will be in a few years. If the Japanese made something like an M240i I'd be all over it, but the RC and Q60 are huge.

Next Golf R is rumored to have a turbo VR6. If they do that.....................

They definitely need more separation between the GTI and R. Such a move would guarantee that. I miss the VR6. We need to protect 6 cylinder engines.

 

IDK that I'm willing to chance a German car yet, especially with the plan to get a toy car 4 years into my next car. Basically pay off whatever I buy next in 4 years and buy a 2 door of some type and have 2 cars again. Figure I better do this now before the kids college funds become too much of a concern

Unfortunately the next gen Golf R and STI are just rumors at this point, and I wouldn't want to wait until 2021 to find out the VR6 R is DCT only, or the STI is super awesome but costs $50K.

 

I had a G70 for an extended weekend test drive this past weekend...I have to say the interior really blows away the Q50 and our G's the only downside is the back seat is smaller..I don't think adults would fit back there the way they do in the G...I had the 3.3 sport model with the LSD which is supposed to have 100 ft lbs of torque and about 60 hp more over a flatter curve but I have to say my 3.5L Hr seemed to have more low end grunt, I think it may have been the gearing ...don't get me wrong it was super quick, but the low end didn't feel super torquey to me and the power seemed to build (I'm not used to driving a turbo'd car)....the steering was also much quicker than the G and the least amount of understeer I have ever experienced in an AWD it really felt like a pure RWD....that being said it didnt feel nearly as direct or heavy as the G which I really didn't like maybe even more floaty than the q50 I drove a while back... Also the transmission was way smoother than the Q50 and the 7At in the G...one odd thing I noticed was that the LSD felt like my old open diff and not like my current factory LSD ....I don't really know whats up with that

I could really go for it just for the crazy nice interior and accoutrements, but I'd definitely put more aggressive pads on the brembos and wider tires ...its about 60K CAD when all is said and done but its still a Hyundai thats gonna take a huge depreciation hit upfront so if/when my G dies in the next year or two I could see myself jumping on a used one thats already taken that hit ..its definitely currently my front runner ahead of a Q50 anyways

 

I dunno I just keep coming back to the Q50 RS400. I cannot find a reasonable alternative it seems. The worst aspect of that car is two fold: the 7-speed transmission and the electronic info hub.

I love the exterior. Interior is nice...nothing crazy. VLSD is a known quantity. New VR30 motor is honestly vetted at this stage of the game. Excellent aftermarket support as far as I can tell. My rims from my G will transfer flawlessly too!

Again the 7 speed isn't horrible, but it isn't great either. But what other car at it's price point has around 400 horsepower and 350 ft-lb of torque? I cannot find another comparable car honestly. And I refuse to deal with Hyundai. Their CS was the worst I have ever dealt with on my previous Sonata. At least Infiniti fake cares worst case scenario.

Besides the 7 speed I don't see any massive issues with the RS400. And I don't like Apple Car Play so I don't care about that. Never have used Android Auto though.

I think Hyundai agrees with you on the dealership experience too...over here its "genesis at home" so you don't see the cars in the dealership and aren't exposed to their crapyness. The sales guy brings the car to you at home and service appointments are supposed to be the same...personally I find all dealerships to be about the same...mostly crappy, although Toronto consistently has the worst customer service in every sector I've seen in in any city/town I've been to in the world so maybe options are better elsewhere...

I wouldn't get hung up on the HP figures. It's not so much about HP as much as it is what's done with it. Those HP figures should put it deep in the 12s, but the best I've seen it muster is a 13 flat. That's no faster than an N55/B58 8AT 3 series with like 80-100 less (rated) horsepower. That ZF8 box is a much better transmission as well, and IDrive isn't perfect but I think I prefer it to Infiniti's system. You can also get an aftermarket Android screen for the BMW. Really the only downsides are price and no stock LSD, but I feel like you get what you pay for.
