NISSAN IS TESTING A NEW Z AT THE NURBURGRING!!! Today is a good day. It sounds like it will have the Infiniti twin turbo V6 engine, but nothing has been confirmed yet. All good news, but I have heard a lot of talk about the car just being an A/T or DCT. I really hope they keep the manual. At this point Nissan must be fairly far along if they already have a development mule testing at the Nurburgring. I really hope it ends up with the ability to smack around V8 Camaros, Mustangs, and the Supra. Only time will tell...

His Forester did not originally come with the STi drivetrain, I think it had the 2.5L NA. What is in it now is much, MUCH different.

Ah, OK. I've only ever barely dipped into the Forester forum over the last couple of years, but enough to know there's a whole world of people who mod their Foresters.

Considering the 2.5 turbos propensity to pop ringlands, it's not uncommon to see STi swaps

Nissan has a new 9spd auto for their trucks. Hopefully they put a great trans in the new Z

No way they will put a manual in the new Z IMO. Honestly it'll probably have the same old 7at garbage since that's what they STILL use in the Red Sport. We can hope tho.

I know I'm kind of a broken record that keeps repeating "F-type, F-type..." But this morning I found myself trolling Auto Trader again, and was surprised to discover the used market is finally dipping down into affordability (for me). There are plenty of three to four year old F-Type 6MT Coupes out there with under 30,000 miles for under $40,000. That's exactly the trend I was hoping for years ago.

I'm not doing anything for a few years while I still have both my girls as dependents, and while we're still living in western NY (because I want to move), but this is really encouraging nonetheless.

You could do worse. I'm not really current on 2 door sports coupes of this persuasion, but it sounds cool enough, and definitely different than the G. Interior looks gorgeous, and I like that there are different color options than the normal black and light grey.

I have a bad feeling you are right about that manual being gone in the new Z. I sure hope not though. I bet it will be a DCT of some sort as they will need that sort of excuse if they ditch the manual.

Those Jags don't really do anything for me, but that is cool to see them dropping into a more reasonable price bracket for you. Where do you want to move?

I think it depends a lot on the current take rate of 6MT Zs vs the auto and how much it would cost to develop a DCT or adapt the GTR transmission vs the cost of beefing up the current 6MT and letting the 7AT solider on.

Where my head is at with the Jag, I'm not looking at it so much as a performance upgrade, as I am as a driving experience. I think the Jag might be more rewarding more often. Particularly how the "S" model has optional settings for suspension, steering and exhaust note. And then there's the design, the overall design of the car makes me want it. Just does.

Personally, if I can connect the used market on what was originally $90K MSRP, down to something $30-$40K, and find the right deal... If I can dovetail that into a point in my life over the next 3 years where it makes sense to move on, what with my G being a 10-12 year old car... If our finances don't freak out for some unforseen reason... If all those things, then that Jag could happen as a long term plan realized.

You know, I started planning for my G when the 2009 came out, and didn't buy one until 2012. Sometimes plans come together.

I've never been to the PNW, and I suspect there are places like Bend and Seattle that I'd really like. But that seems like a world away from what my wife and I have always known here in the North East. We were thinking Burlington VT, and did a little vacation to scope it out. Nah. So now we're kind of looking at areas in Maine around Portland. There's actually a "Rochester, NH", LOL.

John,

Early 2000s Aston Vantage (the V8 car) are close to that price point too.

Just make sure you budget for repair costs for your Jaguar. There is a reason that their service centers are usually 4 times the size of their showrooms...

Maine and NH are beautiful parts of the country. My sister lives just outside Boston and we have driven up through those areas a few times. Very nice. I have a friend who moved to Portland not long ago. We flew out to visit and drove around quite a bit. Lots of the country roads near Portland reminded me a lot of Maine and New Hampshire.

I right there with you, John. I'm on Autotrader at least a couple days a week and have been watching the price of used F-Type SVR's for the past year or so. There's definitely a considerable amount of depreciation from new on the F-Type, which is a bad thing for the original owners, but not necessarily a bad thing for us! I'm not saying this is definitely the car I'm going to go with for my next car, but if the right one pops up for sale in my area then I'm definitely going to give it a look.

My wife's family is from Maine and I lived in Merrimack, NH for several years when I was younger. Those are both incredibly beautiful places, and New Hampshire does have a big advantage in that there is no sales tax and also no state personal income tax (although they do still tax income from dividends and interest). But, you aren't going to escape the bad Winters in either of those places. You might also want to consider the Portland, OR area.... It's really beautiful, the weather is decent most of the year and it's not overly crowded (yet), plus the cost of living there isn't overly inflated like most of the West Coast (again, not yet at least). That's one area that my wife and I are looking at for retirement.
