Dynomat to kill sound?

The G isn't really loud but I drove a new S class last weekend at a car thing and couldn't believe how quiet it was in there. Made me jealous and remember I have a good amount of dynomat from a subwoofer that will never happen.

Could I put it in the doors to help with noise? Would it get wet? I think under the carpet too but that would be a legit project whereas the doors would be more realistic.

Thanks all

Dynamat does help with sound deadning but that isn't actually its main purpose. It helps more with vibration reduction. But put in dynamat and sound deadening foam and it'll make a huge difference.

Also, coating your wheel wheels with the spray on stuff makes a HUGE difference.

I just looked online and that foam isn't too pricey so I wouldn't trying that combo. Where would the best interior spots be? Closer to the wheels?

I don't think the mat or the foam will help that much. Our seals are weak and glasses are thin so wind noise and road noise can penetrate quite easily. I think the S class has double-pane glass.

Maybe move up to the Q70 if you want to stay in the Nissan family.

^ no, it does make a big difference.

Get the undercoating stuff and dynamat / foam your doors. it does make a BIG difference.

Yeah, it's not gonna be S class quiet though.

A couple months back, I installed a short throw shifter. While that was going on, there were a few days when I was driving around with the center console completely removed, including around the shifter. There was a hole directly down the shifter looking at the driveshaft...

...and holy crap was that loud!

Other than the shifter boot and the center console components, the only thing keeping noise out was a thick rubber boot at the base of the shifter, with a collar that keeps it in a tight seal against the sheet metal.

Ever since then, I've been thinking this area could benefit from some Dynamat. But I don't really know. Anybody else thinking along these lines?

I coated the cab facing outer surface of my wheel wells with SecondSkin Spectrum, freaking did wonders. When I get around to it in a few months I got an extra gallon to the the floorboard and tranny tunnel then put down a layer of MLV. When I did MLV to the doors it was another huge improvement.

With vibration dampers, like Dynamat you are looking for 50-60% surface coverage. It's purpose is to stop vibration, not sound. If you want to stop sound you need to a mass barrier, thus use Mass Loaded Vinal. If you are looking to go the full nine yards do 50-60% damper coverage, cover over 100% with a light foam layer to give both padding and eliminate high frequencies, and finish up with a layer of MLV. I did this with my doors, rear deck, and behind the rear seat. I have a 2.5" FI test pipes and full exhaust and I can barely hear it when the doors are closed and the windows up. I have a single Acoustic Elegance IB10AU mounted in the rear deck and with the sound-proofing it was very easy to marry it to the OEM system to get great full bodied sound from the car audio at mid volumes.

Just my 2 cents and input on soundproofing with our platform.
