I have to agree with Rochester on the height of the ****. It does look quite tall. If you notice in the picture on the first page of it in the maxima - they have a sunken shifter so that explains the tallness we see.

I guess you could try cutting the shifter down a bit to get the sleeker look.. I have heard of people trimming it to fit the GTR **** but I don't know what is involved besides likely dremeling the shifter stick part.

As for the collar, it would bother me but not at the end it's at. I am sure I could find a solution of some wedge/fitting wrapped in black epoxied onto the collar. Or like you said.. trim the collars front down. Someone will think of something creative to fill the gap.

Thanks for the detailed pics and taking the plunge! I still think it looks great regardless.

That's it right there. The shifter sits lower in the Maxima boot than it does on the G37. At least, the design of all the related components give it the look that it sits lower. On the Maxima, the boot section in the center console has a gentle upward sweep behind the ****, whereas on the G the boot section is relatively flat; if anything it draws down from behind the ****, instead of up.

The overall effect is to make the Maxima **** look tall. The gap at the ring doesn't help, either.

Good eye.

Man, that 8th Gen Maxima interior is sweet. The exterior, however... Ug, that's a hot mess.

Couple thoughts:
- Looks great, nice job, write-up and photos!
- The gap at the ring should be easy to fix by swapping out the rings to a Maxima ring. It's only held in with a zip tie, you would just need to take more apart and remove the boot. Figure an hour or so worth of work. I did mine while stoned on back meds and even got it all back together.
- The height is adjustable if you shorten the OEM shifter. You would need to dremel down the stalk (I'm not calling it a shaft no matter what you guys say) and then cut and glue the inner piece to fit. Then mark, dremel slots, and reassemble. I have a link to a DIY from a G35 forum but it's on my iPad. It does seem to be done most often with the GTR **** but would work with this one too.

If it were a coupe, that pretty much negates the 4DR. Here's the history:

And some local flavor:

They look sick, just not sure I want a taller shifter. But at least there are now options for us 7AT guys. Great job!

Yep you got a point . To further embarrass myself, I had a 1989 Maxima with the window sticker for many years.

Thank you all for your replies, I'd like to say that when my hand is on the hand rest and while holding the **** it doesn't feel any taller or shorter. Pictures doesn't always do justice to the actual view. If you guys want an accurate answer I could do some measurement and post that up. The shifting doesn't feel any different from the oem, its shifts as smoothly as it did before the swap. The **** does feels a bit different on my palm because I am used to the semi sphere shape feel. I've shifted a couple of times in manual mode and the **** just seats well in my hand.

Lastly for those who are hesitating to pull the trigger I say do it, you wouldn't regret it.

Thanks
G10

Now I wonder how the fitment would be if we ordered the boot w/ boot ring to go with the shift ****. The stitching on the boot should match the stitching in our seats nicely I assume. Looks like a nicer leather as well....hmmmm

Jeet, great thread, I'm about ready for something new and this would be a good addition.

Seems like something can be done to get the trim ring flushed up in that gap, the **** itself looks awesome, and since we're 4DSC (much more than the Maxima, lol) it's very fitting

Anyone have a pic of this **** in a Maxima, maybe that would make it easier to find the solution

I'd imagine all the linkage would be the same.
