Need help with packages
I am trying to figure out how the packages work and what is included and I am very confused. So here is the deal. I wanted to buy a G37 Sport with the automatic transmission. My understanding is the sport offers better steering and suspension over the base model as well as an LSD, and I want that but with an automatic transmission. It sounds like the sport is only available with the MT but I read somewhere else that if you get the Premium package you get the upgraded suspension and steering...so can someone clarify this for me?

Apparently that isn't possible? My understanding is the sport offers better steering and suspension over the base model, and I want that but with an automatic transmission. Is this even possible?
The 6MT G37 Sedan is the only S that's not a journey, it's stupid & confusing but it is what it is
And you also have the G37XS Sedan that doesn't come w/ many of the RWD S features but the G37XS coupe does, go figure.
Awesome, thanks. After doing some more research it looks like there is also a G37x with Sport package, does this also have the LSD and suspension upgrades? It looks like there are a lot of G37x available around my area but not that many G37 Journey. I'm only interested in the sedan.
Also how can I tell them apart from photos? Trying to find a Sport package on autotrader or cars.com is very difficult since there is no checkbox for "Sport package"

I found this post. Is it correct?

The differences come with the Sport Package in RWD-only. In that configuration, you get the big sport brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, thicker sways, sport-tuned steering, staggered wheels, summer-only tires, and a limited-slip differential.
The AWD sedan w/ sport pkg (G37XS Sedan) has bigger wheels but in a narrower square setup w/ All Season tires. It has the sport seats and paddles and sport bumper. It doesn't have the bigger brakes, firmer suspension or LSD. It's more of an appearance pkg compared to the RWD sport setup.
Damn, that's lame. I do need the all season tires but I guess I will have to purchase those. The sport suspension is definitely a must have. I guess LSD doesn't matter with AWD. Are there any reviews comparing the xS vs the Journey S?
When I was originally going to buy a gently used G37S, the way I spoted the Sport model was to search on a specific year, mileage, location and price-range, then sort by the most expensive models first. At that point, exclude the manual transmission option (I was borderline wanting the 6MT for a long time, but not practical for me).
The Sport model commands a premium used, so this is the only sure fire way I found to search through hundreds of Journey Lease Returns to find the sport models.
Even then, what I found here in San Diego is that dealers would bring Sport models in from cold weather states, recondition them, then charge a premium.
Because of this premium on used and uncertainties regarding origin (I lived in cold weather states and would not buy used from one), I decided to buy new as it was only a 6-7K difference between the two, and at that point in 2013, there were only a handful of sport models left in Socal; I knew the classic G37 Sedan was on the way out (soon to become the Q40 non sport, but nobody knew this then), so it was time to pull the trigger and stop waffling.
BLNEWT is correct on the main mechanical features different on the sport, within the exception that I believe he missed the close ratio steering rack. As noted, the Sport AWD is really just an appearance package.
The brakes alone are worth the extra 2K cost of the package. Shame that they made you buy the Nav option to get to the sport option.
I heard that the new Q50s have eliminated this unnecessary bundling, which is huge for me as I had a 2004 G35 Sedan with Sport only prior to my 2013 and loved that car.

Just select the year and model and hit the specs tab. It includes all packages and configurations in detail.
ATTESA ETS PRO adds LSD functionality to the awd system in Nissans. The G37 is just ATTESA ETS. If you're interested in all the variations, wikipedia it's your friend.
Hint: the awd on the gt-r is special, and that car can send power to any wheel it wants.

Thanks everyone for all the info. Looks like it will be a painful and slow search thanks to Infiniti's asinine package structure.

Note there are 3 sub-model Sedans: Journey, AWD and 6MT.
The car you're looking for is a Journey Sport... which is a RWD Sedan with all the actual performance upgrades of the 6MT, but with an automatic transmission. In all likelihood, that car will also have the Premium Package (which came standard with the 6MT since 2011.)
Also, the tighter steering in the RWD-Sport/6MT makes a big difference with this car. Things like suspension and brakes and wheels can always be upgraded, but that sport-tuned steering is a must-have.

Not that the standard Journey is a slouch in any way, but Infiniti knocked it of the park with the sport model Journey.
At twice the window sticker option cost, the sport package still would have been a bargain.
