Can't Hear My Blockheater

Can someone tell me if you can hear the block heater on a G37 ? I've never had a vehicle that I couldn't hear it working...but the G37 gives off no sound of it at all....had to change my battery and am not sure if it is working or the battery was just weak. My first winter with the G

What is the design of the heater? Usually they are simple resistance types that convert electricity into heat w/ no moving parts. Sometimes they are inserted into a coolant passage via a freeze plug on the engine block.

It would be from factory as it is a Canadian car. I just know that you can usually here the hissing of a block heater as soon as you plug it in..and I can't on this car.
