VQ37 and 500hp don't mix. It'll probably be a modified VK56VD twin turbo / VK50VE variant motor. Nissan ain't gonna build a new motor for just one model unless they are expanding it to other models. Or they can slap an AMG motor with the partnership they got going on. But i don't think the japanese are gonna want a german motor powering their car lol.

I don't see why 500hp and a VQ wouldn't mix... He did say there was the possibility of some forced induction, didn't he? I don't see why a VQ37 w/TT is out of the question for this intended purpose.

I honestly think the VQ is outdated. I don't think you can squeeze that much TQ out of it anymore. Really weird They can manage to up the HP with no problems.

I don't see them stuffing a V8 in there, especially when it's been STRONGLY rumored to be twin turbo'd. I'm not even sure if there's a TT'd VK engine running around at all (I've tried looking, all I can find are supercharged Titans).

Regarding using an AMG engine, the M157 does fit the bill with the AMG performance packing (twin turbo, +500hp, +600tq), but I agree with the fact that I don't think Nissan/Infiniti would use this engine. And again, it's a V8, but who knows... though the partnership originally said that Infiniti would use 4 and 6 cylinder engines from MB for their lineup.

Because the VQ was never developed with forced induction in mind. The VR on the other hand...

Most definitely it's outdated. They played with the timings, intake/exhaust to up the HP slightly. But I do think the current VQ37VHR is at it's last legs. It was made for "high" RPM use and power, and it can't compete on the torque front of all these new FI cars. This plus the MPG pressure the US gov't is putting on all manufactures probably means that Infiniti will move to using smaller engines with forced induction.

Since they are doing such a F1/Infiniti design it would be nice if they put a KERS system in there

Maybe it will have a derivative of the VR38DETT in it, that seems more reasonable to me.

De Nysschen finally being more concrete about the Eau Rouge... no more IIIFFFFF it goes into production.

De Nysschen has ordered the Eau Rouge into production. When you're a luxury brand, nice upscale sedans and SUVs are great, but it's also hugely important to have something that can look good in the magazine comparison tests against the Ms and AMGs of the world. You need a sword, basically.

That's where a production version of the Q50 Eau Rouge comes in. De Nysschen said he "absolutely insists" it will become a reality, and one with 500 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.

He told me they aren't sure what engine it will use yet, but it could possibly be sourced from Mercedes and have eight cylinders or be a turbo V6. Sounds like a recipe for good times.
The engine on the other hand... still up in the air. BUT this is the first time that an AMG engine has been mentioned as a consideration. Also, mentions this about the GTR (and in turn, the VR38DETT):

An Infiniti with a GT-R engine probably isn't happening. "Do not think there aren't people within the Nissan organization who have considered this idea," De Nysschen told me. He said it's hard to adapt that unique engine to cars and transmissions it wasn't designed for, so that's probably a no-go. (At the time I forgot to mention that they put it into a Juke once, but oh well.)

Upon some more research, I believe that Infiniti may use a whole new engine based on the VQ, but designed with forced induction in mind. The VR doesn't have direct injection, and it's been previously mentioned that the new engine that Nissan will develop is a direct injected, twin turbo V6.

Actually, I think a very smart fellow distinctly mentioned this back in post #113 of this very thread.

Hahaha, I know YOU mentioned it BB, but I meant that someone from MB/Nissan/Infiniti bringing it up.

Look at you, ahead of the curve 'n' all

To me, this is extremely exciting.

He wants better gearboxes.*In addition to improving the NVH qualities of their cars, De Nysschen told me that newer, better transmissions are a goal. They want gearboxes that shift faster and have more gears. Everyone else is going this route as they chase both fuel economy and performance.

And guess what? He wants manuals, too. "There are just some things you need to have," and a proper stick shift is one. There isn't one on the Q50 at the moment, but it sounds like adding a manual option to future cars is a priority

I agree. And to further your point, while the Eau Rouge might be +500hp and at the top of the food chain, the most exciting car may still be waiting to come out. How about a twin turbo V6 putting out around 400hp with a hybrid system and mated to a 6MT? I really think if Infiniti makes THAT car, it will sell by the truckload. It won't have the Eau Rouge's insane price (which I'm still guessing will be north of $70k), and it should have very, very good performance. They can make it as high-revving and top-end boosted as they want, and use the hybrid powertrain to provide most of the low end torque. This would essentially be a "dumb down" Q50ER.

I would think the transition would be the opposite of what happened with the G35->37 sedan. With the 2007 G35 sedan, they had the new bodystyle mixed with the old powertrain. Then in 2009, they introduced the newer G37 powertrain. With the Q50, they may decide to swap the powertrain in a couple years to this possibly new V6TT setup at the same price-point to the current Q50. If they also release the 6MT with this engine, I think that car will bring back the sporty nature of Infiniti that was instilled with the original G35.

Ah, we can only hope...

Another ****ed over idea....

Jesus..... Whats wrong with these auto manufacturers?

Now we know where Infiniti got the idea for the gay little center rear bumper rhinestone design.
