That's really the main thing that sucks about it - you get the same fuel consumption as a 3-litre forced-induction 6-cyl engine (or worse if you compare to the BMW N55), but without the awesome low-end torque. The VQ also runs less smoothly than the N55 or the Audi 3.0 TFSI. It's impressive for an NA engine without direct injection, but technology has moved on!
Well, what I believe truly superior technology is in the Hybrid. You get reliability, instant response of a NA, low end torque of a turbo, low speed fuel econ and quietness of an electric motor. Turbo and DI are just shortcut to meet government regulation IMO, those have been around for a long time not recent innovations. The Q50 in this case is one step further in the right direction. If it could match the performance of a DI turbo, Infiniti got a winner in their hands. The M35h was an impressive hybrid performance minded car, can't wait to see how well the Q50h performs.

OK, those are dumb, But anything else, really.
This is a good point. The oil and gas industry has spent millions of dollars misleading the public on hybrid technology. Their goal was to tarnish the hybrid name, since this technology leads to much lower consumption of their product.

Internal combustion engine - very inefficient, 50% of power lost to heat. Plus, much lower power output at low revs.

Battery power - 100% torque at 0 rpms.

Combine the two, you have a much more efficient combined system. Add in regenerative braking and it boost the efficiency further.

BTW, the next Acura NSX will also be another hybrid supercar that will be hitting the market soon

Pretty cool build in "tablet", tweet while driving, huh? Companies start turning cars into disposable gadgets now, good luck keep it relevant in a couple of years. Looks sweet for lease only...

I have a feeling Infiniti will be getting a lot of complaints about that touchscreen, similar to what Ford has been getting on the Explorer.

i think most people as bb said are underestimating the hybrids function. Have you driven an m hybrid? I have had many people spin it out because they don't understand. It is a performance hybrid. Did you know the m35h is the second fastest car in the lineup? The original testing for the Guinness book of world records recorded a 0-60 at 4.7 seconds. Now imagine this in a g body? 455 torque is going to be beastly. Also don't forget the m35h beat out the Porsche panamera hybrid. I for one (never thought i would say this in my life) am excited for the hybrid model.

Go drive the m35h and then imagine.

The panamera s hybrid runs about 5.8 0-60 vs panamera s 5.1 or the 4s at 4.7

I don't see how reliability can be anything but worse with all the extra components and complexity of the hybrid. Then you have those extra 275 lbs to lug around which naturally hurts the handling of the car. Not to mention the significant extra cost...
