i basically followed the recommended break in procedure but could not help myself on a few occasions. I was so excited to get past 1200 as well and it was hard. i say you should follow the basic guidelines but its not an issue if you do go over 4k on accident. "oops"

Couldn't agree more. It just takes a while to get 1,200 miles on when you really have no place to drive to...not even work. However, I try to use common sense in running in any new piece of equipment. Abusing it does not follow common sense.

It was a pain to follow the break in period, but I did it (for the most part). There were two times that I went over the RPM. Both were in the first couple days of ownership. I had not gone over the owners manual yet and did not know.

+1 on following the break in period. It was hard, but hey, I'd rather follow Inifniti's recommendation. I'll drive it like I stole it later

I've always wondered about those dealer demo cars or "new" cars that have 300 to 500 miles on the on the dealer lot. You know all of those miles are test drive miles, so that means that those cars have been flogged and wrung out.

Agree with last post. Only 500 miles left till completion of "Recommended" break-in schedule.

I followed the break-in on my current G but did not on my 08 that I traded in. Noticed no ill effects on the 08 and it had 40k miles on it.

I made it through. Of course it only took me two weeks. I slipped over 4K a few times, but not for long. I am another that thinks it best to follow the manufacturer recommendation. I don't think they would say that for no reason.

Followed the break-in guidelines...better to follow what the manufacturer recommends. I'm sure they're not putting in the manual just for fun. I, too, went to 5k RPM once...couldn't resist the temptation!
