Not that I think it is okay to tint the windshield, but I do believe that the picture you posted exaggerated the darkness of a 50% tint. I just tinted my front windows 50%, and it is just a little darker than a Lexus without tint. (I would not have tinted my G if Infiniti had put the same % tint as Lexus.) Looking from inside, the difference between before and after the tine is marginal.

Taken inside a parking structure with the graphite interior as background, your photo amplified the darkness probably 3X. It looks like a 17% or lower. You may want to take another picture outdoors under bright sunshine and aiming at a side angle (sort of using front door window as background, or better yet, open the front door.) to show the true darkness.

No matter how dark or how light it show on picture, the tint is definitely obvious in person.

I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can so I can
Watch you live and breathe your storylines

(And) I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can so I can
Keep track of the visions in my eyes

While she's deceiving me
It cuts my security (has)
She got control of me
I turn to her and say

Don't switch the blade on the guy in shades, oh no
Don't masquerade with the guy in shades, oh no
I can't believe it
You got it made with the guy in shades, oh no

(And) I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can so I can
Forget my name while you collect your claim

And I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can so I can
See the light that's right before my eyes

While she's deceiving me
She cuts my security (has)
She got control of me
I turn to her and say

Don't switch the blade on the guy in shades, oh no
Don't masquerade with the guy in shades, oh no
I can't believe it!
Don't be afraid of the guy in shades, oh no
It can't escape you
'Cause you got it made with the guy in shades, oh no

I said I wear my sunglasses
I wear my sunglasses at night
Wear my sunglasses at night...

I know, I know, I’ve heard it many times before:

“I haven’t had any trouble with my tints."
“I can see just fine at night.”
“The cops have never bothered me.”
“I just drive at night with my bright lights on.”

But I’ll never understand your and other windshield tint enthusiast’s attitude toward this issue. You seem to think that somehow you can defy the laws of physics by limiting the amount of light into your car via these tints and still believe your night vision has not been reduced, or that this reduction does not compromise safety in any way and that you still believe you're a responsible driver. And all this is done just for one reason -- your sense that it improves the car’s looks. I just don’t get it.

Frankly, IMO it’s rarely done to keep the car cooler. That’s just an excuse to conceal the real reason: to make the car look cooler.

Tint law exists, in part, to allow cops to see into your car during a traffic stop. Cops having tint on their cars has nothing to do with anything.

I also live in S. Florida, and a simple sunshade and legal tint has been fine for me. I agree with the previous poster that said people use the heat as an excuse to create a look. I've NEVER seen anyone in a tint shop argue for darker tint on the grounds of heat rejection - it always comes down to appearance. These threads are important to rant on, because they might stop someone that's on the bubble and considering being an idiot from making a bad decision.
