Pennzoil Ultra / Wal-Mart thread on BTOG website

I saw on the "Bob The Oil Guy" website that the new Pennzoil Ultra oil, particularly the 5W-30, was being pulled from the shelves in some stores. Some called it a possible recall. One guy said the clerk took the bottle from his hands.

Curious, I went to the Wal-Mart website. What puzzled me is that although Wal-Mart has an animated add for this oil on their website, I put in my zip code and it said there was none to be found. This suprized me since I bought two 5-quart jugs on Sunday.

I emailed Pennzoil and they said it's not being recalled. The reply I received from Pennzoil:

"Thank you for your interest in our product. We have no information on the removal of the product from the shelves at WalMart. It is possible it was not selling at some WalMart Stores where they have a minimum requirement for stocking products. The product is still selling well and is increasing in popularity."

I hope not. I just put PU in my G yesterday

The walmart I use had a ton of PU on the shelves. They had it in the normal spot, then they had a separate display with at least a hundred 5-quart bottles on it. $28 bucks.

I also just changed mine this past weekend with PU from Wally World. There was tons on the shelves as well (and on sale!). Not too worried about it...

Yeah, I got mine at the Coit & 190 store.

You guys running Pennzoil Ultra - consider getting an oil analysis, and post the results for all to see. Some consider [this oil] a likely candidate to the more expensive Nissan Ester oil, pending analysis.

I plan to have mine changed and analyzed at 4,000 miles. This place will send you vials to fill and send back for review.

I was planning on running PU on my next oil change. I grabbed Pennzoil Platinum last time and no complaints so far.

BTW, I saw this on a PU FAQ on BITOG. I thought PU contained ester additives...?

14. Has Pennzoil® incorporated any type of Esters into the base oil blend for Pennzoil Ultra™?

No ester base oils were used or are required in the Pennzoil Ultra™ range.

Oh, not that discussion again. They say there aren't any in the base oil. But there still may be ester additives. Note that the "Nissan Ester oil" is also a conventional base-oil with ester addititves

Oh thanks, never saw that thread. It's just the way Shell answered that question made it seem like there's no ester base or additives at all.

That may very well be, but I'm certain many people might say the same thing about regular posters to an Infiniti G37 forum.

Personally I'm grateful there's such a vast resource available on that topic. Although after reading a few threads at that site I usually feel like I know even less than I did to begin with.
