High-Pitch/Frequency Noise Poll
Well the good news is several sources have acknowledged that Infiniti is aware of the issue.
Also, the noise has been heard on other Nissan/Infiniti brands as well (370, EX35). That's a good thing because it makes extra sure that Nissan/Infiniti knows about it.
The bad news is:
A.) There's no clear acknowledgment that they've seriously been looking for a workaround for current vehicles. That or the workarounds they came up with weren't feasible (either technologically or economically or both).
B.) I think the median age of a G buyer is supposed to be in the high 40's. That means most G owners probably don't notice the sound, thus further decreasing the incentive to fix it retroactively.
C.) Since the issue is known to be with the ECM and apparently that unit is in a hard to get area, that doesn't bode well when mixed with A and B. Add to that the fact that they can't risk padding the ECM without affecting the airflow around it and causing it to overheat and logic would indicate that there just might not be easy (or inexpensive) way for them to fix it on current vehicles.
One thing that will be interesting to see is whether the 2010 will also have this issue. Since people with the 2010 EX are hearing it as well, the noise may still be there when the 2010 G's come around.
Also, I wonder if the "Noise Control" feature that's being added to the 2011 M is Infiniti's attempt at a solution for this.
The press kit for the 2011 M has this to say about that feature:
Active Noise Control, which reduces undesirable engine harmonics, providing a quieter cabin
Could this possibly be the solution that Infiniti is going to use to deal with this issue on the 2011 M? If so, then that might be another notch on the negative side as that would mean they don't have another fix that would work for current models (G, 370, or EX). At least not until this new feature trickles down to these vehicles.

I called around to some dealerships here in Atlanta to see if they were aware of the issue and if they had any fixes and one service advisor told me he has a customer who has the same issue and they reported it 5 months ago with no resolution to date. So hopefully they will figure it out soon rather than another 5 months from now.
Noise when charging phone
I took a leap of faith and just picked up my 2009 G37 even though I knew of this issue. I do not notice the sound in my car (yet - fingers crossed), but I have observed a sound almost exactly like what is described in this thread when I plug in my smart phone to charge it using the main cigarette lighter outlet in the front. Does anyone else observe anything similar? I think this is normal behavior because the same thing happens in 2 other vehicles (Ford Escape and Cadillac CTS). For those of you hearing the sound, does plugging something in to be charged affect the sound in any way? For what it's worth, my phone is a Windows Mobile pocket PC (HTC Touch Pro2).
FYI - I rode with a buddy of mine today in his M45, and it has the same noise. I think his car is 3 years old, so it looks like the problem has been around for a while. Maybe we should ping their forum to see if they are seeing the high numbers like we are.
Had my G37 serviced yesterday....2nd oil change. I asked them if they had heard anything from Infiniti about this issue yet (which I brought to there attention soon after I purchased the car). Up until now no-one at my dealership heard the noise, but finally yesterday one of the techs heard it. Additionally, the service manager went online to this forum and a few others and saw all the banter about it.
They contacted Infiniti and apparently Infiniti is going to start replacing the ECUs......so I'll be getting a new ECU as soon as the part comes in from Japan.
I'll keep you posted

something I noticed the past few days. The noise seems to not emit when I am first driving the car when the weather is in the 20's. When the car fully warms up and i drive it for a while, the noise will come back.
so it seems like the frigid weather somehow suppresses this noise for a while ..hmmm

I noticed the same effect this month with the cooler temperatures. The noise is correlated with the engine termperature: as the engine warms up (~1 min) the noise does as well, increaseing in loudness until the engine has reached its steady-state temperature.
Perhaps a cooling device would suppress the noise?

Some potential good news - the district technical specialist (DTS) that I've been corresponding with indicated that a "countermeasure" part (the relevant part is apparently a charge capacitor) has been developed that reduces the noise and that the part has been rolled out on 2010 models (I recently drove a 2010 loaner and didn't hear the noise).
I expect to hear from the DTS again next week, when he will hopefully have more information about how we may obtain the countermeasure part. This specialist has been very responsive and forthcoming - I don't get the feeling that he's hiding the ball at all. I will post again if/when I hear from the DTS.
