I believe the ability to hear the high pitched sound is age dependent. As we get older,we start to lose high frequency hearing detection. This is why I don't hear it and it drives my son crazy.(he's 16)

Not sure if anyone has stated this, but it may explain the almost 50-50 in the poll results.(older vs younger drivers)

Anyone know of a SoCal dealership who's familiar with the issue? This is getting pathetic of Infiniti to just not officially own up to the issue.

Just left details of my incident on the other thread.

Did they give you any trouble in replacing it, and has the ecu been working properly? My 09 has the noise and is becoming an annoyance.

It's definitely the ecu, had the same problem, after taking it in for a second time, the dealership replaced it. Not everyone can hear the sound and it's relatively expensive part, so there's no tsb.

Also, anyone who had it replaced, how's the mpg reading? unless the car's been at 19mpg for 5 months straight, something's wrong.

Not everyone can hear the frequency. service manager and head mechanic claimed they didn't, though corporate headquarters acknowledged it and the ecu was replaced under warranty. I believe they said it was a problem plaguing cars built after april 09.

Does anyone know if the dealer puts in a new ECU to fix this sound, will the new ecu have the updated TSB for the tranny downshifting issue?

I would think so, but it's worth asking them just to make sure.

I took my G37 in for service some time last year and mentioned that I was having this high-frequency ringing problem. They had me test drive the car with a tech to reproduce the issue. The tech couldn't hear the ringing at first, but eventually heard the noise or got bored of listening to me rev my engine in park. The service department claimed this noise was normal.

I have been watching this thread for a while and took my car in for service yesterday. I asked my service consultant if he had heard about any updates for this problem or about replacing the ECM. He said he hadn't. At the end of the day, he calls me to let me know that they are waiting on a part and will have the car ready the next day. The next day, he calls to let me know that I need to bring in my other key fob so that they can reprogram it. I eventually pick up the car, and the noise is finally gone! After more than two years, I can finally drive my car in peace with the radio off!

In case anyone is wondering, I have a 2008 G37S Coupe with Nav (purchased Mar. 2008). The invoice states the following:

Customer states there is a high pitch sound from inside car with vehicle at idle and everything off. Tech verified /per tech line replaced ECM. Replaced to correct/ advised customer of findings

Parts
Engine control modul - 23710-JK73D

My service consultant said that no one could hear the noise, but they replaced the ECM anyway. I guess it took a while for the fix to finally trickle down to the tech line, but they finally fixed it. Good luck to anyone having this problem. It ought to be much easier to get it fixed now.

Well I guess I jumped the gun. The ringing noise seems to have come back, but is a little harder to reproduce. It seems to happen more randomly when driving at low RPMs. I guess it's back to the shop for my G.
