2011 G37xS - Flashing Red Airbag Light After Low Battery - B1015 (3rd Time!)
I'm the 2nd owner of a 2011 Infiniti G37xS Coupe that I got in late 2015. For the 3rd time in 8 years, I had the same issue happen, reproduced through the same set of conditions.
Whenever my battery has gotten too low to start the vehicle during winter cold snaps here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, my attempts to start/boost/etc the car to get it going again seems to result in a flashing red "supplemental air bag warning light" showing up on the dash once I get it going again. I have tried following the SRS airbag reset procedure videos on YouTube, and I seem to get the same result:
After doing the above procedure, instead of the blinking light going away, it instead changes its blink pattern to a 1-long, 7-short pattern. For the third time, my Infiniti dealership has detected a B1015 code when hooking up their reader, and the say that the only resolution is replacing the SRS airbag control module.
The problem is that they quoted $2,767.22 (CAD) to resolve this. I remember this happening two times previously the exact same way (Winter 2016, Winter 2017), and in both previous occurrences, Infiniti said it was north of 2 grand to fix, but that they would do it under "goodwill" and call it under warranty, even though I was technically out-of-warranty both times. Now it doesn't seem like they will do anything.
Given this happened twice before, I knew in the back of my mind not to keep cranking away in vain trying to get my vehicle to start in -25C at 3 AM a couple weekends ago, but I couldn't help myself. I knew after leaving the trickle charger on all night and trying it again that this flashing red airbag light was going to return. How it is possible to "fry" this very expensive airbag control module so easily and predictably?
It seems like I'm not the only one having this type of issue too:

Isn't this like a safety issue that Infiniti should be taking responsibility for? Jumping or boosting a car with a low battery is a common procedure that's in the manual that should not cause damage like this.
