to buy a G37 or not?
Thanks guys. oddly enough, the guy had sent me a text shortly after I wrote that post saying he is on the verge of selling to someone who offered him $16,000 cash. he said if I could come up with anything higher than $16,000 in cash that the car is mine! BUT... that's a little too much to throw down all at once so I think I'll just wait it out and finance one. don't want to rush into it and just buy the first one I see. There is however another one for sale but has 140,000km on it
guys asking $12,500 because of some "minor maintenance" that needs to be done to the car (small scratch on the bumper) he says its nothing major and its never been in an accident. should I just steer clear of the "as is" ads? Thanks

I personally like to use auto trader's site and car gurus (especially good for price comparison). I have a Blk 09 6MT Sport Coupe and LOVE my car. I purchased it in 2012 with 32k miles on it and a trans issue (covered under warranty). It was pretty much an eye sore on the lot where it was since the dealer was selling high end cars like Porsche and Maserati's, so he gave me a great deal. Took it to the dealer and they slapped a new trans in and I have only had 1 issue since (also covered under warranty) with a seal leak, rare for most cars. My only expenses have been regular maintenance, i.e. oil and filter changes, 1 set of tires, etc. I average 19 to 27 mpg, although on a rare occasion I got right at 30mpg (29.97). I live within minutes of work so I haven't put too many miles on it except for traveling back to my hometown which is 4 hours away.
You should be able to find a decent mileage 2009 or 2010 for around $15 to $17k. Use the sites that I mentioned above and you should find some great deals. I traveled quite a ways to find mine, from PA to GA, but I also got it $8k under book for the time so it was worth the trip. Happy Hunting.
I would stay clear from any cars where some maintenance is required. A G37s is an unbelievable bargain for the performance, luxury, and reliability you get. I had a 335i before I got my G37's, and there were oil leaks, engine problems, and all sorts of things that went wrong with my car. It was more than $6000 in repairs in the 9 months that I owned that car. I sold it and bought my G37S. No problems in 2 months of owning other than an oil change that I got done. The G37s is one car that's value is stlll extremely high. Hell, where I live, it is almost impossible to find a used coupe on sale. I picked up my 2010 with 47k miles for $18 000. So I believe you can also get a much better deal. I am also in Canada, where cars are more expensive. I would try to get 2010 and higher year if you can, lots of updates to the interior. 2011 was updates to the exterior. Regardless, find a low kilometers G37 / G37s, and you will have a car that will last you for a lot of years to come.

Thanks for your input guys. Really appreciate you sharing your experiences with your purchases. now I know what to look out for and what I should be paying. The guy with the 08' (with 115,000km) had an offer fall through and told me he would be willing to drop the price down to $16,000 for me. still debating on it. what do you think? I will keep looking in the meantime. Thanks for the website info Manystylze. I will go and take a look now!
Hey guys. just a little update. I found a 2008 G37s (5AT). The car has 116,000km on it and was wondering, if I decide to purchase it, whats the first thing I should do to the car? (maintenance wise) I had already planned on flushing and replacing all fluids, new filters and spark plugs. Is there anything else I should consider? (based on mileage and age of vehicle) Would love to hear your opinions. Thanks. oh and I talked him down to $16,000. Is that a reasonable price or should I try and swindle some more? Thanks

Me personally I think that is a reasonable price, especially if it's the coupe. I have a 08 G37s MT and when I bought it I changed out all the fluid and did all the preventive maintenance I could. One tip...when you change the spark plugs, try to find the skinniest spark plug socket you can (not all sockets are created equal). The spark plug holes are very very tight. I actually got a socket stuck in one of the holes and almost had a heart attack (literally). Any who, all the maintenance is fairly easy. Also, good luck and congrats in advance.
I think that's a decent deal for sure, depending on the overall condition of the car of course. I bought the same car at 88k for $13,500 in 9.5/10 condition. There are a couple scratches that you have to look for, otherwise minty interior. As for maintenance, I would check and ask for receipts and service records. Unless you are just picky, the spark plugs, and gear oils still have plenty of life left. Feel free to change the oil and filters but otherwise, it should be good to go.
Thanks for the info Kris. Maybe I will just change out filters and oil when the time comes. So tranny and brake fluid should still be good at that mileage? wow $13,500 for a coupe with 88k? That's a hell of a deal. wish we had those kinds of prices here in canada.
I've always loved the G coupe and have wanted one forever. I have read nothing but great reviews on this vehicle from the early G35 coupe right up to the late model G37 coupes. I have finally saved enough dough to consider buying a used G37s coupe. I just want to make sure I'm not making the wrong decision and buy something that's going to cost me a fortune to up keep. I had originally wanted a G35 but kept reading that people were burning through tires and brakes like there's no tomorrow. Not to mention, poor MPG with premium fuel to boot. This kind of scared me off from the G35. My question is, is the G37 coupe any better when it comes to the above mentioned issues? I've read that they do have better mpg than the 35 but was wondering if the g37 coupe burns through tires just as fast? I know I'm dealing with a sports car here. (Soft tires = short life span) and I know I will be paying a little more for oil changes but i hope to be doing my own anyway. I would love to hear what you guys think of your G37 coupes. hows the tire life span on these cars? have you found a tire that lasts? Hows the MPG for daily driving? has it been reliable? Thanks a lot. Look forward to hearing your take.
Gas mileage is 21.6 overall (26 hwy and 16 city) when taking it easy- it goes down fast if you drive it hard/spirited.
Had Absolutely no problems with it, which I expected. Had a 2003 I-35 with no issues which is why we gave to our boy. Before that had a 1989 Maxima (over 400,000 miles) and a 1995 Maxima (over 150,000 miles).
We do take care of the cars and go beyond maintenance requirements, particularly on oil changes
I would not hesitate to get another G-37
