to buy a G37 or not?

I've always loved the G coupe and have wanted one forever. I have read nothing but great reviews on this vehicle from the early G35 coupe right up to the late model G37 coupes. I have finally saved enough dough to consider buying a used G37s coupe. I just want to make sure I'm not making the wrong decision and buy something that's going to cost me a fortune to up keep. I had originally wanted a G35 but kept reading that people were burning through tires and brakes like there's no tomorrow. Not to mention, poor MPG with premium fuel to boot. This kind of scared me off from the G35. My question is, is the G37 coupe any better when it comes to the above mentioned issues? I've read that they do have better mpg than the 35 but was wondering if the g37 coupe burns through tires just as fast? I know I'm dealing with a sports car here. (Soft tires = short life span) and I know I will be paying a little more for oil changes but i hope to be doing my own anyway. I would love to hear what you guys think of your G37 coupes. hows the tire life span on these cars? have you found a tire that lasts? Hows the MPG for daily driving? has it been reliable? Thanks a lot. Look forward to hearing your take.

I have owned a 2012 sedan since new. The only thing I' ve done to it is change the oil and filter and the REAR brakes. It has been 4 1/2 years for me. Check the price of insurance. MPG for me is 19-26. Whatever you do, don't get in over your financial head.

Thanks for your input vmastros. Good to hear your enjoying your G37 sedan. I am looking at getting a 2008 G37s coupe. I will definitely check on insurance costs as that will be one of the deciding factors for me. I priced out insurance for an '06 G35 coupe last year and it wasn't too bad. Hope the two year jump in vehicle age doesn't affect prices too much. fingers crossed. thanks again for your feedback.

I would go for it. I have a 08 G37s fully loaded and I have had no problems at all. I do all the maintenance myself, I have flushed the clutch system, changed the spark plugs, changed the transmission fluid and much more. It is all super easy. I can't really speak on the tire issue. I've only had mine a year and a half and really don't drive it that much. You won't regret buying one.

I think I read one time on here where one person mentioned their g37 burned oil, its so extremely rare, pretty much unheard of. I have an early 08, first owner (i am the second) leased the car in July 2007 then bought it out afterwards. I beat the crap out of my car on a daily basis and I have zero issues. It's had loads of drag passes, revving, and in general always driven hard. I've had it for 3 years and all I have done so far is change oil,do the clutch fluid every year, and changed rear tires once. Infiniti did all the fluids before I bought it so I haven't had to change it yet. As far as mpg goes, if you get the 6mt, the mileage is terrible. I average 13-15 mpg if I do all city driving and average about 18 with highway mixed in. Although I hear the 7 speed auto's have a lot better mpg, but I personally would still take the manual. All depends on your driving habits pretty much. Tires wear faster on rear than in the front. Overall, the g37 is extremely bulletproof 10/10. The only real issue is the timing gasket fails on the 2008-2010 models. Extremely rare as it has only happened to a handful of people but something to always remember. Tried to keep it short and sweet, didn't want to write an essay.

Great to hear! Thanks for your input. good to know that routine maintenance on these vehicles is relatively easy. although I don't have any mechanical background, I do plan on doing most of the maintenance myself. I plan on watching lots of Youtube tutorials

Well good luck and if you have any questions or problems feel free to ask away. I will try to help you out to the best of my ability. There are also a lot of knowledgeable people on here that know these cars inside and out.

Thanks for your input Nick. Yes I've read that these cars are quite reliable and I have faith that it will live up to its reputation. thanks for the heads up on the timing gasket fails. lets hope that when I do decide to buy, that the car I choose hasn't been plagued with that issue.

I plan on doing an extensive inspection as well as having it looked over by a reputable mechanic. Is there anything in particular I should look for when inspecting this vehicle? I plan on checking all fluids, hoses, seals ect. most cars have their quirks. Is there anything I should pay close attention too when looking it over? I've read that some of the automatic transmissions in the 2008 models have had issues with a chipped 5th gear? hope its an issue that's few and far between. BTW I'm looking at a 2008 G37s AT (not sure if Ill end up with 5 speed or 7 speed) but so far the only g37's in my price range have just over 100,000 km. Hope that's not a bad thing. but I'll be patient and wait for the right deal to come along. I'm not in any rush.

Mpg suck In our cars as well especially on the 6 speed coupes. I would say not count on it but they're definitely worth buying if mpg is a concern it's not a car to consider tho honestly. I averaged 16mpg city on my 6 speed coupe and about 19mpg city on my 7 speed auto sedan. The pre 2012 models can have rear timing gasket issue that can be a pain due to them being plastic but not sure how common it is

Ya I figured the Mpg wasn't spectacular in these cars. I guess when your pushing 330hp its kinda hard to be economical Would you consider yourself an aggressive driver? do you think the 5 speed AT would be a little easier on gas since there's no tendency to punch the throttle when switching between gears?

The 5 speed gets the worst mpg out of all of them. Honestly If I were you a lot of people will agree with me, get the 6 speed manual, definitely changes the car. If you are really stuck with an auto just look for an 09+ those have the 7 speed autos. The 2008 only had the 5 speed auto.
