Hey man, like you I saved up for my G37S not too long ago (October 2015). The 6mt does get pretty bad mpg( because you'll be pushing it). It doesn't go through tires that bad, and oil changes are really easy to do yourself along with transmission fluid. Overall a fun car and you won't regret it!!

Yeah the 5 speed is worse in mpg but I am an aggressive driver most of the time lately I been driving more calm and getting around 19mpg city on my 7 speed. I had a 6 speed coupe before my auto sedan and loved the manual it was so much more fun but the 7 speed is comfortable

Pre 2012 models don't have the timing gasket issue. They weren't fixed in all 2011 models unfortunately. Depends when it was made.

Ok thanks Nick. good to know! I will keep an eye out for an 09' then.

cool. thanks man. Good to hear from someone that was in the same boat as me. always good to hear about people loving there g37. makes me want it more! sounds like my best bet will be an 09'. Might just have to save a little more $$ before buying. I'm no rush though. good to know about the easy maintenance. I plan on doing most of it myself so I look forward to saving some money on that, and gaining some knowledge at the same time!

I believe it is pre 2013.

To the op, if you have the money look for a 2013 + models. First they won't have the gasket issue, second their at is worked out and said not to have the issues of the previous 7at's(even with updates some people are still having issues).

Mpg difference between 7at and 5at is around 1-2 on highway at 70+mph because of the lack of cruising gear rpms, below 65mph there shouldn't be any noticeable difference (most people here compare the mpg to a 2008 g35 sedan which is misleading because it had a different engine, the real comparison should be between 2008 g37 coupe). Otherwise it is similar. Overall highway mpg is pretty good 26+ is easy (actually getting around 30 is common)

But I have to tell you these cars have bad city mpg because of their displacement. Idling, stop and go traffic will hurt your mpg a lot (don't be surprised if you get around

2012+ has the timing gasket fix. It is DEFINITELY 2012 and up. 2011 still had the crappy one.

ok thanks thebigJ. I would love to go for 2013, but the budget only allows for 08'-09'. I know these cars aren't the greatest for mpg and I think I'm ready to deal with that. only getting 17-18mpg with my current vehicle, although its not premium, I think I can deal with the jump in gas prices from regular to premium. Mostly just getting the car for summer use anyway. just want a fun luxury sports coupe to enjoy during the summer/Fall seasons. I will be parking it in the garage for the winter. would you happen to know if the 08' g37 coupes had the timing gasket issue? anything else I should be aware of with an 08' coupe? (especially at 100,000km or over) oh and your message was cut short, didn't gt to read what you had to say about city mpg. Thanks again.

Is this a very common issue with the earlier model g37 coupes? Its the first I've heard of it. I've read through lots of consumer reviews and haven't come across it yet. Is it expensive to fix? is it even able to be permanently fixed? or is it an ongoing issue no matter how its repaired? Thanks

I think the issue is definitely overblown on here, there are cars that have the gasket fail, but compared to the 200000+ on the roads, there's such a minuscule chance of it happening. It will cost like ~$4000 to fix and should be permanently fixed. Don't worry about spending thousands more to save one or two mpg with the 5AT vs the 7AT.

Thanks Epiphany. I figured the gasket wasn't overly common. I also wondered what the difference was between the '08 vs. 09' in terms of Mpg. Thanks for clarifying that. I believe I now have my heart set on an 08'!

Another question for you guys. When I've found the car I want, should I have a compression test done? or would a professional inspection be good enough. Also, should I ask to have the timing gasket looked over since there's been known issues with them in these cars? Thanks
