What to watch for when buying G37

I am hoping to officially join the G37 family in the next few weeks. I am looking for a 2008-2010 G37 coupe (hopefully an S)! What are some common problems with these cars to look for when buying? Any tips would be great, thanks!

When buying any used vehicle you should always make sure they have new: tires, breaks , rotors. These pieces are wear items and will cost you big if you need to replace them shortly after ownership.

Disagree on new tires - new tires can cover up problems with alignment, worn suspension parts and even frame damage. I'd much rather see a matched set of nicely worn tires.

The other items mentioned would be nice to see, but, realistically, who in their right mind is going to do THAT much maintenance then immediately sell the car?

I would have your mechanic go with you to do an inspection on the g37. So you can know if has been modded and abused. Good luck!

yeah...tires, brakes, rotors...nice to have those in good shape but in reality they are quite reasonable to replace. I"d almost prefer to have them in bad shape and use that as bargaining chip on price.
i'd focus on stuff like clutch, electronics, etc

^correct. Depending on how savvy you are around are car, you should generally be doing a mild check all around the entire vehicle. Engine oil, cooling system, transmission (feel it out by driving of course), electronics, brakes etc.

As far is g37 SPECIFIC items to look out for, only things I can say are premature rotor wear and the clutch which you can also find more info about on this site. Personally, I experienced the premature rotor warp shortly after I purchased my g37 but have had it now for about 5,000 miles and haven't had any other complaints.

Best of luck

Have it inspected by a professional. That's the best advice. Expecting to have new tires, breaks, rotors etc is unrealistic.

Check the rear sub-frame bushing for leakage, check the dip stick for low oil or rainbow colored oil.

I'd check the clutch.. Seen a lot of people have clutch issues at low mileage.

Rear brakes...these wear abnormally fast. Otherwise, drive it, buy it, enjoy it.

you guys are seriously focusing on wear items as a make or break deal on a used car??

First of all, it is "Brakes," not "breaks." Also, unless the worn parts are going to affect the drive-ability of the car, they won't get replaced.

Second, a modded are is not an abused car. There are plenty of stock cars that have been abused.

There are no big or major components on the car that can't be replaced relatively easily. The engine and transmission are known to be very stout, unless it was defective to begin with. If it's an MT, there may be a slight concern with the slave cylinder, but there is a heavy duty replacement for it. These things fail randomly and you won't be able to inspect it well enough prior to buying.

Side note, OP had only 1 post and I doubt we'll see this person again.

My advice would be to hold out for an S (as you've said you want) so you will get the upgraded steering, suspension and brakes...
