Broke my G, first day out of the garage!
So Monday afternoon I checked the weather forecast and saw it was going to be a nice week. I decided that it would be a good day to get the G out of the garage because I haven't driven it since October.
Driving a long casually, not doing anything crazier than normal and boom! I was at a dead stop waiting to turn left on a road up a steep hill, turned while in first gear and shifted to second and then nothing.
At first I thought I missed the shift, as a heard a clunk and the RPM's shot to red line. I shifted into 3rd and still no power. I was able to coast into a parking lot nearby. I attempted to shut the car off and restart it to see if that would help and still nothing. It would go into gear perfectly, but when I'd release the clutch and press the gas there was a grinding and hissing noise coming from the rear end and the car wouldn't move. All gears were not working, not even reverse.
I sat there for a few minutes in awe that I had the car out for only an hour and a half and I broke it. Called Infiniti road side and they said they'd send me a tow truck, but since the dealership was closed they would have to store it overnight and drive it up the next day.
Infiniti called me the next day and told me that I snapped my rear drive axle. Never in a million years did I expect that unless I was on boost or something, but the car is bone stock besides a Stillen Gen 3 intake. Car is a 2008 and only has 34k miles on it, never driven in snow and usually sits in the garage 6-7 months of the year. Never the less my joy was shot down

Yes, the dealership is going to fully cover the repairs to the axle since it still falls in the 7 year power train warranty. They also covered all the towing fees, since the dealership is a good 45 min. away from me and they had to store the car overnight that should be a nice bill.
Sucks. I broke mine, but in the way you'd expect - launching a the drag strip. Fortunately axle replacement is easy and not too very expensive. But that doesn't matter much to you because you're covered by warranty.
I wonder how/why yours happened though? Sounds odd. Maybe just a defective part?

Who knows if it's defective or not. Since driving it off the lot I haven't exactly babied it. Dealership called yesterday to tell me that FedEx keeps breaking the parts they ordered for the repairs. After his 15 minute blame session I told him that I work for FedEx. Kind of funny listening to him bite his tongue. This would have been a perfect week to have my baby on the road, been nice and sunny. Next week is still going to be warmer but forecast shows rain everyday.... sigh....
That is awesome that Infiniti is taking care of you for the replacement parts and labor. I remember (I didn't do it myself) but a diff getting blown in my S2000 from years ago, and the dealer noodled out of replacing the part as I had an aftermarket exhaust on the car. If I were you, I'd consider myself fortunate.
