2008 G37s 6M reliable?
2008 G37s 6M reliable?
Hello i would like to know if they are reliable specially the manual transmission one, i know everyone here is a G37 fanatic so please give me your honest opinion on maintenance, (clutch, breaks) etc. Im getting a great deal on an 08 with 50k miles on it and i would like to know how much it will cost me to own it in the long run. If you read this please reply im planning on making and offer and possibly getting it with in the first few days... thank you.
i've been having some issues with my 09 (infiniti can't figure out what keeps tripping the "service engine soon light" and my CSC just went (that's one of the known issues with this car though)) but i think it's a more isolated occurrence. the car has a pretty solid reliability record from consumer reports. a couple of friends owned g's before i bought mine and they've never had any problems with theirs.
as for cost of ownership, it's like the sales guy said to me when i was talking to him about it before i bought the car: you don't buy a car like this expecting maintenance to be dirt cheap.
despite the nagging engine light i keep getting i absolutely love the car. good luck!

I just bought my 08 6MT with a hair over 50k miles a month ago and I love it. Reliability is not an issue so far, and everything I've read seems to agree. I had an 04 6MT G35 coupe and I had a couple of issues there (window motors going out, squeaky brakes, head unit starting to go bad) but from what I understand of this platform, all of those frequent issues have been resolved.
The only complaint I have with my current car is a squeaky center armrest cover that is currently being addressed. I have read something about certain 08 models having an exhaust issue that creates more noise, but that should be covered by warranty.
Test drive it, get it inspected and pull the trigger if everything looks good.

I got a 08 IP an the clutch an transmission seem to be a bit noisy sometimes. Not to sure about other G riders out there with leaking coolant, mine started to leak just a tiny bit. Easy fix, other then that I love the car! GL on the purchase
I have a 2008 6MT which I bought used with 11,777 miles on it. I'm at 64k now. No mechanical issues.
I just replaced the brakes. I get synthetic (Mobil 1) oil changes every 4k and I replaced the clutch/ differntial fluid at 30k miles. Its due for another change now.
Maintenance isn't dirt cheap (as you would expect) but its not terrible and these cars are by and large very reliable. The only thing I would worry about is how much you'll end up spending on mods...=)

General maintenance on the G is rather easy and most doesn't involve any complex procedures... Trans fluid on the 7at requires it to be at a certain temp for proper level, but since this is about a 6mt, that's irrelevant. Read through the DYI section. Most common maintenance is described.
The weakest point on the MT is the CSC. Various owners have had these fail anywhere between 20K and 60K miles (general mileage range based on reports here and 370z site). Replacement involved dropping the trans. This item is covered under the basic warranty (4yr/50K mile iirc), but not powertrain. Infiniti elite care does cover this too.
It's hard to put together meaningful statistics on what causes it to fail. I'd think mileage/city driving/lack of maintenance of the clutch fluid would be key contributors, but some with really low miles have experienced this failure too.
Clutch life in general depends how the car was driven. My old camaro was bought with 11K miles, 15 years later, with 85K miles, I was still on the original clutch. I guess buying used with 50K+, be prepared for a full clutch job including the CSC, MC (highly recommended), and the rest of the clutch parts. Price wise? $2-3K is typical depending on where and what parts are used.
