Extended warranties/ Road Hazard warranty: Worth the $$$ ?
Hi, new to the forum, and about to take possession of a 2009 Slate Blue/graphite int G37 w Nav and Premium and Tech packages; 22k miles. The car is beautiful.
The car is local and I ran its VIN past the local service dept (not sold by them). They said the car from their records was fine and was last in for routine service at 21k miles.
An extended warranty and a road hazard warranty are being offered--$2320 and 1295 respectively- and I am inclined NOT to get it.
But, after a search pulled up nothing on the forum, I wanted to ask the general population here, do you think this is a necessary and prudent option or not? Will I with any degree oF certainty get my money out of it?
From what I've read online, it appears not, though it is a roll of the dice.
TIA
John

Thanks.
I actually looked into doing that and the local Infiniti service department that knew the car said they thought I would be wasting money to do it. I was fully prepared to do it and thought it a good idea.

there are several different extended warranty plans offered thru infiniti based on time and miles. For 2300, I hope they are quoting you the 8 year, 120k mile plan. I think I paid 2100 for it when I bought my car.
Not that I expect to have to use it. It's more of less an insurance plan against unexpected repairs. I understand it's gravy train for the dealer and my last 3 cars with one, I didn't have to make repairs.
My paranoia started back in 95 when I owned a Mazda. The extended warranty for that car literally saved me almost 10k (transmission, steering, radiator, lights and electrical) in repairs over the life of the plan, all for the cost of $1300.
Also when I sold my Acura still with 2 years, 20k miles left on extended warranty, the kid and his dad were obviously pleased and surprised. I felt good about getting rid of a car.
YMMV.

preowned warranties are more expensive than if you purchased the car brand new
btw, road hazard warranty pays for itself out here in NY. I have a coworker that just replaced 12 tires in a year on her Hyundai Sonata 18" tires and she doesn't have a road hazard.
I benefit it from myself b/c roads in NYC suck

Thanks all, for the advice.
I picked up the car today and declined the xtednded warranty at this time, but will as advised think about it over time, knowing that as the car ages the price goes up some.
The tire pressures on 3 of the tires were very low when delivered. Filled them at home. Of course I will report this to the BMW dealer who sold the car.
But, it's S W E E T

I purchased my car brand new with the extended warranty and road side or that fancy name they gave it. Anyways, I think they are worth it. I've had to use the road on a few occasions and just recently got my steering wheel and dash cluster cover replaced under warranty.

Soolman, what year/miles is your car? What was wrong with the dash cluster? Replaced under extended warranty?
The last car I bought an extended warranty on was a waste of money. I used it to replace a blown speaker after factory warr. ran out.
I think I will wait 2-3 years and see how the experience goes. If I have no problems, then I'll probably get it for peace of mind before the factory warranty runs out since I likely keep the car longer.
Do either of the warranties cover clutch friction plates in any capacity?

I literally just picked up my car from the dealership, and had the steering wheel and dash cluster top replaced too. Found out when i purchased the car, i got an aftermarket warranty thats not through infiniti. i still have until april 2012 for the factory warranty to end, but the service advisor was saying the warranty i have doesn't cover gaskets or filters or minor things like that where as the one through infiniti does, does anyone know if this is true? quick side note, i thought you all were joking when i saw what you all have said about G25 they give you as a loaner, unfortunately it was true...it just wasn't near what our car is

The road hazard warranty is definitely worth it. I guess its more expensive when putting it on a used vehicle but when I purchased my G new, I paid something like $400. It paid for itself the next day when I had a screw driver go thru the side wall. Went thru 5 tires so far.

On the subject of Warranties (sorry to thread jack), does the standard warranty still count if you dont buy from Infiniti and can you still add the extended stuff aswell?
