would they fix this??
hey guys and gals, i was wondering is there any bulletin on wind nosies for our windows. when i'm driving in the highway about 65 and up I start to hear wind noise whistling. maybe they would change out the window seal?
They've done a few things on mine to fix whistling and water leaks.
The drivers side has actually never whistled on mine, but the passenger side has. They replaced the seals on both sides, but this didn't really do anything. It still whistles a bit.
Before replacing the seals, they stuffed some foam near the area of the whistle behind the seal, which forced it to push closer to the window and create a tighter seal. This worked a little better, but I believe part of the problem is a small area where the "triangle" piece (where the side mirrors set) closes onto the the seal. You'll see the edge of the window tuck into the seal a bit here, with a small area thats a bit open. I believe that this is the weakest area of the seal for water and air leakage.
I've looked at some G's and some have this area set tighter than others. I've seen some (like my dad's G), where the window almost completely tucks up into the seal here, while mine and a few others I've seen have maybe a centimeter gap.
They adjusted my drivers windows a bit by digging into the door and adjusting the range of motion when it closes--i think it's angled a hair differently than stock to create a better seal. I don't think I'd recommend doing this though because it makes the windows a hair noisier to use for some reason.
One problem with having them mess with your windows is that they'll likely break some of the door clips, which rattle like crazy. They'll cover replacing that but every time you take the door off and put it back on, one breaks. It's kind of ridiculous. I used to take the door panels off my E36 all the time and I never broke a clip once.
I don't know if this helps at all, but it's my experience with our doors/windows.
