Oil Change overdue

Hi Guys,

Need a suggestion, My car is about 800 over due for oil change (I know that's bad). I get my oil change from local Infiniti dealer. I have to make a round trip, 1500 miles, for work and I have to leave tomm. Since it was a last minute trip announced I have to drive my car. so my question is, can I still drive another 1500 miles without oil change? I have 24K on my car.
Any suggestions will be appreciated

Thanks

Sure, you'll be fine. Might want to check and make sure it's not real low just to be cautious. You might also want to consider buying your own oil and taking it to a nissan dealer for the change to save a few bucks. Also if you haven't already moved over to a synthetic you may want to consider that as well since it will enable more miles per oil change. Mobile 1 is usually carried by dealers.

What OCI are you following? Being "overdue" is rather relative. If you're following a 3k mile OCI, 1.5k miles is not too bad. As mentioned above just make sure your levels are okay and take it easy on the car -- which is likely easy to do as it seems your next 800 miles will be highway.

^ Yeah I was following 3K miles guideline. My commute is from Baltimore - Pittsburgh - Columbus - Toledo and back, pretty much all is highway mileage.

I just ran 9260 miles on my last oil and the analysis was fine. Most vehicle owners worry way too much about a few extra miles on the oil and not nearly enough about other more important things. You do realize that the 3000 mile OCI myth has been debunked long ago don't you? If you are skeptical, take a sample of the oil you drain out and send it in to Blackstone labe for analysis.

Minimum recommended OCI per Nissan is 3750 and 7500 if you are not in extremal service. If you are mostly highway miles and don't beat on your car or track it, you can easily run 7500+ miles between oil changes.

Have to.. no, good idea...sure, probably a proactive checkup and oil change after initial break-in.

I follow my dealer's OCI of 3K miles/3mos. Or else they may void warranty. I really don't mind, it's mostly city driving and the car runs hot all the time on tropical weather. Gives me a peace of mind.

Sometimes I go over a few hundred miles.

You won't void warranty for not following the short OCI of 3.75k miles or 3 months. You can follow the 7500 mile OCI if your driving conditions are typical for most drivers as outlined in the owners manual.

Personally I follow the 3750 OCI as well just because I think 7500 is a bit long and I purchased the maintenance plan for that interval.

My main concern is the affect an extended OCI has on the warranty. I haven't really seen a clear cut answer on the forums.

You should be fine but I would do it just because...any time I go on a long trip I try to make sure everything is as "perfect" as can be. Go synthetic tho...I'm using royal purple...expensive but you don't have to change as often either.
