It dies in 4 months? That's pathetic.
I don't really care about the cost of the battery, just the inconvenience of having a key battery die so soon.

Thumbs down

I am pissed that the key fob battery life is so short. (~ 2 years)

And definitely ... do NOT save a couple bucks on no-name batteries. Stick with recognizable names like Duracell, Energizer, etc ...

Easy install.

Just wanted to vent.

Congrats if you made it 2 years. I bought my car in April/May 2009. And the battery light came on maybe in December, and I finally changed it last week. I wanted to make a full year on the battery.

If it costs me 3 bucks on batteries every year, oh well.

out of curiousity, why didn't they put a rechargable in, and have the little holder to the lower left of the steering column recharge it?

Cost?

Erm, yea, but if a battery on full charge will last let's say min 6mos to max 2yrs, i dont think it is going to be cycled very often.......

There's also a few other factors

-Rechargables lose charge over time much faster than Lithium
-Rechargables hold less charge per "volume"
-Rechargables run at a lower voltage

Making the port recharge would not be cost-effective; you'd need either metal contacts on the key (cheap and tacky, they don't even make the Infiniti symbol on the key metal), or use induction (expensive). Either way, it would still cost more with the battery.

I'm okay with spending a few bucks on batteries every year...

It's not the $3 I'm concerned about. Just be sure to recycle them and not toss them in the landfill.

Yeah never buy batteries from dealerships. Not even the car battery lol. My key fob has shown low battery for about 8 months now. It has went from 3/4 to 1/2 charge, lol. I'm gona use it till it straight up dies.

LOL, that's my plan too. I think it's been at least 4-5 months since my light came on, and mine still works fine.

Not 100% on this... But if that fob straight up dies... You can't start your car.
So... I'd change it if you see the light come on, just to avoid the hassle.

I thought if you put the fob in the holder to the bottom left of the steering column it would start........

Yep, that's right. What would be the point in having that fob slot in the car if it required a battery?
