ruined paint on G37

I really feel bad for you and your car. It really is a terrible thing that happened. But like alot of people have said, Thank God you weren't in the car or getting into the car. I know this won't make you feel better. But just to let you know how much I sypathize with you, I'll tell you a quick story. In April my Dad was dying of cancer. So my wife and I moved in to his home to help him in his last days. He lives in the country and there are wild peacocks that roam the neighborhood. A male peacock saw his reflection in my new shiney black G37 with only 1400 miles. Because it is mating season the peacock thought his reflection was another rival male. So he commenced to peck at my G all the way around until he had completely scratched my car( beyond buffing out), all the way around. My paint was completely ruined. My car is in the body shop as I speak being completely repainted. I know this doesn't compare to your damage but I was helping my Dad out, He still died and look what I got for trying to do a good thing. I'm confident you will get a new car from looking at your pics and hopefully all will be good in the end for you and your wife. Again, I am trully sorry and I hope you'll keep us all up to speed on things. Best of luck to you. You deserve it.

We meet all the requirements so I know we won't owe a dime to IFS. With that said, I guess it's time to start looking for another car.... Here's my question though (I probably know the answer but like to hear what your experiences are); Are we going to have to come out of pocket again for thngs like the Taxes, fees, etc. or can we fight his (drunk driver's) insurance co to take care of that for us so that we can get into another vehicle w/o a dime from our pocket? We spent over $2000 for these thing (incl Road Hazard for the wheels) and shouldn't have to re-pay all those costs, correct?

BTW, Thanks guys for all your well wishes....

I would imagine that you are going to have to cover the $2000+ to get into a new G. IFS will cover any sort of depreciation and dimished value that his insurance company would not cover, but not the down payment and drive off fees that you put down to get the car. Good Luck.

A few words:

get a lawyer, get a lawyer, get a lawyer

I just got finished fighting/stressing over getting mine fixed from being rear ended by an idiot. The insurance company dragged and only allowed the rental car for a certain amount of time, the guy ignored phone calls and overall a very stressful situation. Some things I learned from it all.

1. No matter how minor the accident looks, wait for a cop so there is a police report.
2. If the other person is ignoring phone calls get a lawyer, don't wait.
3. If the other insurance company is slow or isn't doing what you want them to do, get a lawyer.
4. Try try try not to lose sleep over it. I was horribly stressed for the entire time. You have the police and insurance companies on your side in this case, but remember that his company is going to do everything they can to pay you the least amount of money possible. Don't let them. Get a lawyer!

Don't worry about lawyer costs. Odds are when you win against the guy the guy will have to pay the court and lawyer fees as well. Get a free consultation with a lawyer though. Oh and you should probably stop posting about it online until everything is sorted out. Odds are this other guy is going to hit his limits with so many cars being damaged or totalled, don't let your insurance pay any of it because then it goes on your record and your rates will probably go up. Get a lawyer and have the lawyer go after him and his insurance company to get more money. The money is there, it is just a matter of getting someone to help you get it. Good luck!
