Fuel Capacity

What is our vehicle fuel capacity? The instruction manual and website claims 20.0 gallons but every time I go to get fuel it maxes out at about 16.5 Gallons. Whenever I refuel I am almost on complete empty so I don't know what is going on. I would understand if I got cut off at like 19 or 18.5 gallons.

its because it has an emergency supply just in case you are many miles away from any station. also it bases your reserve tank based on the way you were previously driving. also look around there are threads some what like this a little reading goes a long ways

What do you mean by reserve? Isnt their just one fuel tank? What happens if I run my fuel gauge beyond Empty?

Then the reserved fuel will kick in and save you

^^No it is not. It is calibrated to like 17 gallons. Personally I think they do this for two reasons. 1st to keep the fuel pump running better over time since running your car to empty is not good for the fuel pump. You should always try to keep your gas tank above a 1/4 tank from what I hear. 2nd to help people not run out of gas. Most people when they get to E will put gas in their car and not wait to run it another 60 miles until it dies out.

There is no "reserve" tank. The fuel gage measures approximately 16 gallons, 1-2 above F and ~3 below E. Even when you gauge shows, E or 0 Miles, you can safely drive well over 50 miles highway before you really run low. I have put a good 65-70 miles on my G35 after reaching E and still only put in 18.9 gallons.

Better safe then sorry, so don't let it run completely out. I have actually started filling up when I'm down to 1/4 tank now instead of E, makes the price of filling up a bit less, psychologically it doesn't hurt so much lol!

Call me old fashioned by I like it when the fuel gauge tells me the amount in the tank rather than some other bull****.

I agree but E has never meant empty. They always give you lots of gas beyond E so that people will say "oh **** need to refill" long before you actually run out of gas, rather than having the people that run it right near E actually run out of gas.

it's horrible to run a car bone dry, I've almost done it in another car. the needle was buried below E. You'll get mad nervous when the car starts shakes a bit. than tank holds 60 L and I filled 58 L. NEVER AGAIN...LOL
