This is what my salesman told me. Said Infinity planned to keep the demand high and not glut the market with them. I'm not sure how 18,000 compares to other manufacturer's release numbers, but for the whole U.S., it does seem low. I don't know if it's for a specific period on the 2008s or what. Anyone else hear this?

 

If I remember correctly, the 03 was limited to 12,000, only to be raised due to demand.

 

Why would Infiniti want to keep demand high? They dont control demand... demand is controlled by the market... Infiniti just controls supply, and if they have it in short supply, the price increases... not demand.

I would assume that Infiniti wants to supply as many as possible if there is demand for them... more money in their pocket. The loser out of that equation is the dealer, who has to sell it close to invoice now to be able to push it...

 

Well I guess that it adds to their negotiating leverage to make a profit. It also adds some exclusivity and down the road better resale value.

 

Sales through August this year for the Coupe were 9,492 units. Last year through August they were 14,800 Units. I'm sceptical that they would limit themselves to 18,000 sales.

Sounds like your salesperson is full of it to me. Although...I have yet to see another G37 on the road here in South Jersey. I know there are a few of them out there, but I haven't seen them.

 

Have YET to see one on the road other than at the dealer.

 

1. There's no doubt that low supply helps out the resale value of the car...

2. As far as being beneficial to the dealer, I guess it could happen, but only if there is enough demand for all the cars. Once the supply meets demand, theoretically, that's the most efficient point... with a discount coming when demand is less than supply.

3. Manufacturers wouldn't limit themselves in production... the only real limitation they have is demand. If they have cars sitting on lots without being sold, that's when they cut back production... otherwise it's full speed ahead...

BTW... I live in So. Fla. and there are 2 G37 vehicles on my street (12 houses).

 

I'm not saying it makes sense; I'm just relaying what the sales guy said. And he may have no idea what he's talking about.

But in the No. VA /DC area I have only seen ONE other G37 on the road.

 

LOL, yeah, sounds like the sales guy was trying to tell you there's a limited supply, to at least make you feel better about getting it at MSRP. My guy told me a similar story, and how hot the car is... blah blah...

 

U.S. sales of the G35 coupe exceeded sales of BMW 3 series coupes through 2006 model year. Up until the 2007 (lame duck) model year, Infiniti had been selling roughly 25,000 - 26,000 G35 coupes per year. 18,000 model year 2008 coupes seems a bit low unless Infiniti is building in some new model start up delays leading to fewer produced cars. I recall, though, at the NYIAS, Infiniti said they expect to bring 2,000 coupes into the U.S. every month. Now, this may not officially start until October and may not include August 08 as the 09's will be on their way. But still, the 18K figure seems low from what Infiniti has done and said. My gut reaction would be a scare tactic on the part of a salesman to get you to buy now and not wait until all the 08's are sold.
