Right flipper down with trunk open. Can I open the roof?

My wife used her remote to open the trunk and the right flipper came down for some reason. I tried to manually put it back up but stopped because there was
resistance and felt like a gear might strip. I have only seen other post were this happens when the roof is opening which is not the case here. Is it possible to open the roof
and hope that things go back into sequence? I am afraid the flipper might catch on something and cause further damage. How is the best way to fix this as the trunk won't close
and I don't want to drive it to a shop with the trunk up like this. Any advice from you experts? Thanks.

It's one of the most common issues on these verts. a BROKEN FLAP GEAR,,,It affect all models without exception!

If your flap is hanging free (as seen in the picture), you probably have a 2009/2011 model. Infiniti changed the gear design in 2012 but, still the same crap. The only 2 solutions for that situation. 1- Is to get the entire flipper linkage assembly replaced at the dealer...That would cost around 3k( for one side only) and will still contain the cheap plastic gear inside.

2- Cheapest solution (and permanent) is to get gears replacement. Way cheaper than replacing the whole linkage. I sell some solid metal gears for all models since the last 5 years now. These are engineered and machined by a specialized gear company, They are complete and already assemble; presfit and welded to be a direct fit and, can be replace by diy in +- an hour per side(with an helper) . I also provide all installation instructions and links to online tutorials. You can contact me by email at: guy.menard305@videotron.ca for further infos.

For the moment, you can attach the hanging flipper up with a bungee cord and leave the top up. You won't damage anything that way.

Hello Guy,

Thank you for responding. It is a 2012 model. You mentioned using a bungy to tie up the flipper which I am not opposed to until I can get the gear replacement from you.
The issue is I can't close the trunk without the flipper hitting the trunk. I have included a picture and video so you can see what I am talking about. Is it ok to use a little force or pressure to get the flipper to go down? It seems like it would strip a gear that I would be replacing anyway but I'm not sure if it would harm any other mechanism in the assembly. Please advise if it ok to force the flipper down. I emailed you about ordering the new gear/gears.

Thanks,
Charles
