Passenger side hood latch does not lock when closing
Passenger side hood latch does not lock when closing
2009 G37S convertible
The passenger side hood latch does not lock in place when the hood striker engages it so does not hold the hood closed on that side. I removed the cover plate and lubricated the latch with WD-40 which improved the action of the latch, but didn't solve the problem. The cable pulls open a little block to release the hatch when opening. That works fine. But after the latch is released the spring is supposed to pull the block back into place when the latch is closed again to hold the striker in place. This is not happening. The parts are able to move freely. I am thinking this is an issue with the cable. If the cable is not able to be freely pulled back into place by the spring, the latch will not lock when engaged.
If I force the cable to extend with a screwdriver the latch will lock into place until the next time I pull the hood release lever, so the cable is not broken. The driver's side latch works fine.
Any ideas how to further troubleshoot? Is there any adjustment possible/needed for the cable tension, like on a bicycle cable? Lubrication of the cable?
