Right Hood Latch won't lock

Long story short, opened the hood today after installing new exhaust. Went to close it and the right side wont, lock down. Can anyone help? I took the latch out and looked at it and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary, the left side works perfectly but the right won't lock..

2 other things, 1 - Would this be covered under warranty and 2 - Do you think it's safe to drive with just the middle and left side locked down?

Is there like something on the latch that sometimes slips and needs to be maybe re clipped??

Any help is appreciated guys.h

right side like the driver side? or passenger side?

1) yes its fine to drive like that, just try to fix it asap
2) it should be covered
3) did you take out the radiator cover at all? sometimes reinstalling that (the clips underneath) can pinch the cable and make it so it wont lock

Yea happened to me the release cable was pinched and wedged where the radiator shroud and the middle bracket was. Moved the cable and problem solved. Good luck!

yeah I had that happen the first time I took my radiator cover off...it's really easy to pinch the wire in between the cover and that middle bar that the cover screws into.

hope that is the problem and you can do an easy fix

Bumping an old thread for the same issue. Right hood latch won't lock when I close the hood. The cable seems to be loose and not punched in anyway and haven't done any recent work. Any other ideas as to what the issue could be?

I know this is an old post but it just saved me BIG TIME!!!!
The lower center screw pinched my passenger side latch cable, I might over tight the screw after removing the grille. I lose the screw a bit and I heard a click sound, the latch works again!!!!

And now even later along the years, mine has done the same while installing a grill. Hopefully this works out with it just being pinched

Reviving an already revived old thread again.

My car was at the dealer recently and since it came back to me the right-side hood latch doesn't lock. I noticed it the day after I got it back from the dealer. They replaced my alternator and pulleys/belt where they would have likely taken apart that whole front end. Following the guidance above, I took off the bolts to my rad cover and lifted it up and can see that the wire is not pinched between any panel along its path of travel across to the driver-side. It is "tied" to the front-facing lip of the rad cover along its travel path but seems to have some slack in it. My latch is still not locking... I am able to manually press it down and it travels all the way to where it should lock but no *click*.

Any other suggestions?

Update... I took apart all the bolts and fasteners for the rad cover and front grille and could not visibly find anything pinched along the whole travel path of that wire. I bolted everything back together and the hood started closing normally... so weird. I lubed up that whole area well just in case though. No issues since then.
