Better use of your ashtray ($20)

So I originally was going to try this as an experiment but I like it so much I am keeping it. My idea was to glue a phone holder to the inside of the ashtray insert to hold my phone. But no glue is needed. It is actually a very convenient place to have your phone both visually and practically. I should've taken a few pics of my fumbling with it, but I place my wrist on the center console to steady my hand and make selections.

Steps
Bought this
Amazon.com: Satechi Universal Smartphone CD Slot Mount for iPhone 6 Plus, 6, 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, 4, iPod Touch, Samsung Galaxy S5, S4, Note 2, Note 3, Nexus 5, S, HTC One X, S, Motorola Droid Razr HD, Maxx, Nokia Lumia 920, BlackBerry Z10 Torch, LG Optimus G: Cell Phones & Accessories Amazon.com: Satechi Universal Smartphone CD Slot Mount for iPhone 6 Plus, 6, 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, 4, iPod Touch, Samsung Galaxy S5, S4, Note 2, Note 3, Nexus 5, S, HTC One X, S, Motorola Droid Razr HD, Maxx, Nokia Lumia 920, BlackBerry Z10 Torch, LG Optimus G: Cell Phones & Accessories

Took it apart by unscrewing it and then dremeled the sides down so that it would fit in the ashtray.

Don't have to glue it (in case you need an ashtray later?) and there is a charging plug right there if you need it.

I actually just bought the same mount lol. So what'd you do? Just stick the end of the mount inside the ash tray?

Felt? Mine has rubber (2009).

I just got sick of a)My phone flopping around in the holder and b)not being able to easily see WAZE or change a song.

Question, what's that length that you cut it down to? I realize I could get up, got to my garage, get into the car and check....but again, that would require getting up. Lol.

I'm in the Note 4 crowd. I have mine to the left of the console in a tablet windshield mount. I say tablet, but it's big enough to fit a Nexus 7 without case. I haven't run a cord to it yet, but I never charge my Note 4 in the car unless I absolutely have to. It's on the long list of things to do.

I actually plan to run a wire discretely and even avoid using the cigarette lighter outlet. I'd like it all behind the scenes.

6MT doesnt need this :-D

The indentation in the ashtray/center console assembly fits my phone with perfection. I can corner as HARD as I want and nothing moves

Same for me. My Galaxy S5 fits in that space even with aggressive shifting and hard cornering and now mount needed! Just leave the ashtray cover closed.

My phone is in a case that probably helps it stay put as well, but no issues.
