Does anyone know if the paper gasket was updated on the 2012 g37. I’m looking to get one and heard that they were updated in 2012 can anyone confirm this? I don’t want to ever have to deal with this problem.

 

It was. New one has a metal "trim" to it that acts as a reinforcement. I looked it up years ago but I believe there's different part numbers; indicating a change.

If it was updated then what is this thread about? 2013’s aren’t immune?!?!? If it was updated in 2012 then why would the 2013’s have any problems?

 

Buy my mishimoto plate and install a gauge people.

Peace of mind sorta. At least if a code is thrown, you can see if it's due to low oil pressure

 

It all comes down to "Build Date." The car might be titled as a 2013, but that doesn't mean the engine wasn't built in 2012 nor what version of the gaskets were used when the engine was assembled. I can almost guarantee that Nissan did not "throw away" the cheap, paper gaskets when they revised them. I'll bet they used that stock up and, eventually, switched over to the newer version.

As Teahead mentioned, install a pressure gauge.

… I worked for Hyundai for a year… as a Tech… ive neve seen so many engine failures in my life, we had a section of the dealership called the graveyard where cars would sit waiting for engines to arrive… I worked for Mazda for 6 years and we had occasional engine failure etc but nothing like hyundai/kia… their quality is trash.. Ive worked at Audi for 5 years ironically ive seen the least amount of engine failures there… Ive worked on a ton of fords hyundai is similar to ford they just keep on breaking… Infinitis quality control is definitely better than Nissans , Infiniti definitely makes better cars
