This is untrue, check your owners manual as it varies from model year to model year.

Here is my rule of thumb, read your owners manual and follow it.

Yes I did and in 2011, they did not require the use of Ester oil. Not on my G37 nor my 370z.

Oh and I should also state that they didn't even recomend it nor have any mention of it, I also followed this up at the dealership as I heard on this forum differently. Also note the dealerships did all the oil changes on my G and still do all mine on my Z. Both 2011's.

Welcome to the forum GapGirl. I surely hope that you and BobYourHusband can help our "hard headed boy selves" learn English, learn about our G's, and anything else you can think of. Do you plan on personally visiting all of those Infiniti dealerships who are using Mobil 1 (or anything other than OEM Nissan oil)? Do you need support in your crusade against EOA (Engine Oil Abuse)?

Mobil 1 is a terrible oil for our engines. If you do a lot of research, you'll see that all of the G's that had problems with overheating had one thing in common... Mobil 1 oil. Increased heat means increased friction which means increased wear. In addition to that, Mobil 1 has been reported by used oil analysis's to be running thin, under the viscosity that it should be.

In addition to all of the above, Mobil 1 has also caused reported problems with the VVEL system. Ester oil would be better, as the coating is beneficial to the engine but isn't necessary and will NOT void your warranty. Personally, I think I like Pennzoil Platinum the best, after a massive UOA study done with 20 different oils on the G35, Pennzoil came out on top. I'm sure the same applies to the G37 and as a previous poster mentioned, there are UOA analysis to prove it.

TLDR: Mobil 1 is garbage.

Not according to my last (6) UOA, but then again I don't have an agenda.

I would respectfully disagree.
Mobil 1 is recommended by many manufacturers.
I am sure there are better synthetics out there, but Mobil 1 is pretty decent stuff and easy to come by.
I have used Mobil 1 in my Honda S2000 for the last 10 YEARS, no issues, zero. (Garage queen with 30,000 miles)
I have used Mobil 1 in my acura RSX type S for 8 years and over 130,000 miles, no issues, zero.
These cars rev to 9,000 and 8,000 rpm's, respectively, and they get driven... hard.
Does this prove anything? Absolutely not.
This is just one owner's experience, but if Porsche, Corvette and other brands recommend the stuff is probably not "garbage".
Cheers,
Daniel
