Gains w/ Uprev on Stock G37?

Not sure if this has been discussed before and maybe it's pointless, but does anyone know if there are gains to be had with a custom Uprev tune on a stock VQ37VHR, either G37/370z?

This has been discussed a lot. Why would u spend 500$ on a tune for a stock g37?
Common sense first n foremost. Get ur mods and then tune. Otherwise ur jus gonna throw ur money away.

It's not all that bad an idea, really. Some don't want to Mod a SEDAN, yet would like better driveability and quicker shifts(auto).

Some may see this question as pointless but I can see why it comes up. Considering that many stock turbo cars can see a significant increase in HP/TQ from just a basic chip tune, its a pretty logical question to ask.

The Nissan VQ37VHR is already one of the most powerful N/A V6's on the market which is why it (and its 3.5lt cousin) have won so may awards over the past 10 years. Its a fantastic engine, its just that it is already pretty close to its peak output.

If you love modding for modding's sake, then go crazy and have fun with it. If you really want to see some big HP/TQ numbers, then you have to go either FI or increase the engine capacity, neither of which are cheap.

At the risk of piggybacking on the original post, I'm curious to know if the Uprev tune improves drivability all that much? Is it going to straighten out the erratic shifting of the 5AT? Is it going to git rid of that aggravating throttle lag out of a corner?. Id be willing to make the investment if it takes care of those things.

I am curious myself. If the tuner is worth a damn it should.

If the ecm/pcm update works for the 7at, wby wouldn't a custom tune with more capability?

Not many here will explore that though. Its all about dollars to hp instead of driveability.

From: Framingham Ma,
I actually posted on that thread also, 20WHP from HFC's is :/ ?? ? ? ?
Like finding magic beans..

UPREV will improve the throttle response and you can firm up the shifts.

Waste of $ IMHO. Mod her up and then drop the cash for the tune.

And also, EcuTek > UpRev.

Tune should be done after you're done modding. If u wanna get a tune on a stock car go ahead. Its not my money.

Funny thing is that all you guys are just basher
All he ask was gains and not your gay opinions.
Why is that when someone on the forum ask for
Help almost everyone has to bash instead of helping
The guy out and direct him to the right place....
Most of you join 2010-2013 what the hell do you know

Lol what does join date have to do with anything? You been here since 06 with a low post count. What are u some kind of lurker? If u knew anything and u should since u been here since 06 you would know the gains on a stock g37 would be very minimal and not worth it. More than likely he will add some mod which would then require a re-tune and even more money again. This is a OPEN forum and anything can be said here. Put on ur big boy pants and deal with it.

So bringing this thread back alive. I asked this same question to John @ Visconti regarding the new EcuTek product and there are gains to be had on a stock G37x as evidenced by this dyno session.

This is a great thread. MANY of us here are from CA and high flow cats and headers are simply not an option within the realms of the law (smog stations look for these mods and will not sign off). Also, it seems that the mods which are borderline legal such as cold air intakes (CARB sticker and paperwork needed) and cat-back exhausts (the exhaust on the sedan is already pretty good, but it's your money) yield meager results at best and are not worth the nearly thousand dollars you'd spend to install them (in my opinion, again, it's your money).

With a complex intake/valvetrain management system such as that used with the VVEL setup on the 3.7 liter VQ, it seems that factory tradeoffs had to be made which would allow the car to run in a certain manner which would allow the best overall experience across a broad range of users and to meet CAFE standards.

It looks like some tuners have figured out these tradeoffs and are seeing better results already with a tune on a stock powertrain, which is encouraging.

Adam West - Could you invite John from Visconti to the discussion here? I'd love to hear his about first hand experience tuning the stock VQHR37.
