Question Reverse Gear on Manual Transmission

Hey,

I just bought a G37S, and this question is absolutely retarded, but how to you get into reverse on the manual transmission? Do you just force it over real hard to the right? I was pushing pretty hard but I don't want to force it *too* hard and find out that you need to push some hidden button to get it into reverse.

P.S. I asked the same question for my BMW 328is and it turns out it just had a *REALLY* strong spring for reverse. I'm sure it will be the same case here but I want to be sure before damaging anything.

Can't wait to drive this thing! Just waiting on getting it registered tomorrow morning, and knowing how to get into reverse, heh.

Push down and then to the right lol.

But yes, BMW's just have a stiff reverse spring so you don't engage it by accident. Or safety mechanism is the push-down action. Same thing on VW's and Audi's.

I felt the same way when I first left the dealership. I tried to play it off. I was acting like I was trying to find something, but I really didn't know how to put it in reverse. Lmao!

One would have thought this a good question at the test drive phase of the purchase.

Not a retarded question if you ask me. I did the same thing when I got my G
I was so used to my 280ZX with gears going right in.

Later that day I found out how to go in reverse

I wanted to ask the same question but did not know how to without sounding insensitive...LOL. I think it's pretty intuitive how to engage the reverse gear in most cars, I haven't heard of anything out of the ordinary.

lol, yeah I did test drive it, but there was no need to reverse it in any part of the test drive. Now that it's in my driveway, I need to reverse.

I learned this on a Mx-5 about the pushing down. Push into the floor then to the right. Your not in the bay area are you? ONe of my co-workers had a client call today and ask how to put his 6mt into reverse.

No, I'm in NY. I'd be too embarrassed to ask that over the phone, heh.

Valid question if you're not familiar with it.

In my old camaro, reverse was to the right of 5th, but you have to push pretty hard to get it there. The G is much easier, while in neutral, push down, then to the far right and back. You'll know you're in reverse because the display will show the backup camera instead of whatever mode you currently have selected.

Congrats on the purchase... on future purchases I would advise you to try EVERYTHING on the car during a test drive.... forward, reverse, all gears, ac, radio, lights, etc lol.

There are some specific things to check on these cars but you already purchased so enjoy!!!

Lets all be happy nissan didn't implement the nonsense GM does/did in their 6mt's. The requirement to go from 1st to 4th gear under NORMAL driving conditions. Only when you're really hammering on it does it let you shift the way you want to (1-anygear). On my old camaro this was easily defeatable, but still, i bought a mt because *I* want to choose which gear to shift into. The documentation says it's for fuel economy reasons!@#

Google CAGS or "computer aided gear selection" if you want to learn more about this nanny.
