The 'NOTE' in the TSB acknowledges that it happens in both D and DS modes, but it states they will remove these "features" from Drive mode.

Really I'd say one purpose of that note is to please the lawyers.
It is their way of covering their a$$es, saying this (I'm paraphrasing):

"This is all considered normal to our goofball engineers BUT we are willing to remove these behaviors from Drive mode so that people stop complaining, since apparently the owners of these vehicles do not have the sick sense of humor that our programmers have. We're going to keep these behaviors in DriveSport just to prove we think it's good sometimes."

I may have embellished slightly.

To be fair and unbiased, yes, I think it is OK for the transmission to be over-the-top aggressive and perhaps even a little unrefined in DriveSport mode, but in Drive mode, it should simply DRIVE and not fool around like the 7AT has been for the past 3 years. That would be MY preference anyway. No shenanigans.

So, hopefully the update will apply to my car and all the rest of you who have noticed the problem, and it will be driving like a 2012 soon. I don't know why they didn't include 2009's in this TSB yet, but I'm thinking they will offer an update for them too, eventually...

I swear I had more fun driving the G tonight just from the new optimism.

I fully agree. I would still want the shifts in DS to be refined just real aggressive. Even more than it currently is...throw fuel efficency out the window and let this engine rev, downshifts should rev match more frequently and maybe max out at 5th gear (it may do this already, not sure). No power in 6 and 7 anyway.

If you drive it hard in D it will respond with lower gear selection and aggressive rev matched downshifts, but DS should be like this from the start.

That would be extremely disappointing.

Its about time this update came out. Anyone already get this applied to their cars? Please post your experiences with any improvements.

Nice!

Im sure you'll give us some news, hopefully it will be good.

Pretty sure you did but just so i remember correctly: you've mentioned this to your service team at least once? I have to think of how Im going to get my dealer to give me the update even though Ive never complained about the issues before (mostly because I see there was no real fix and Id just end up back and forth at the dealer for no reason).

I will definitely let everyone know how it is after the reprogram.

Yes I did mention it to the dealer at least once. However, all you should need to do to get the update is report a few of the symptoms listed in bold in jackal2001's post and they should take care of it for you, unless your dealer is feeling particularly uncooperative that day.

Unless you own an 09
Mike if you don't mind while you're there could you ask if they happen to know if the 09s will be included eventually?
Thanks & look forward to your review.

Maybe excluding the 09's is some sad marketing scheme. Maybe they think those old 09 rags are three years old now and it's time for a trade-in!

I sure hope (for obvious reasons) the 09 is included.

Anyone know of a significant enough difference in the 09 tranny as compared to the 10 or 11 that would make the upgrade impossible?

2010-2011 G37 shift responsiveness issues.
ITB12-027 Released: 5/15/12
Engine VQ37VHR
2010-2011 G37 (V36/CV36)
7 speed tranny.

If you confirm one or more conditions.

1. Harsher than expected down shifts when coasting to a stop.
2. Hesitaion/lag when accelerating after coasting
3. Hesitation/lag or harsher than expected down shifts when coming to a stop and accelerating again (rolling stop).
4. Engine rev matching during moderate to heavy braking.
NOTE: This is normal ASC, adaptive shift control, operation that can be removed from the normal drive mode, but will remain in sport mode.

Action:
If this applies, reprogram the ECM and TCM

This looks like I only have page 1 of 10 so I don't know any more info than this.

I wonder if there will be similar flashes for the M and FX owners. It seems they are suffering similarly with the transmission problems.
