Update!!

Since the last few relevant posts were made on the 12th, the timing on this is kinda hilarious...

For all of you guys that had cars that ITB12-027C didn't apply to... Infiniti JUST released ITB12-027D on November 14th which encompasses almost every 7AT out there.

It's not even in the general systems of two dealerships that I called about it, but I know the management staff at a third, and they said they would check into it for me. They did, and they found it, and it is absolutely incredible. ALL of my shift issues are gone and the car drives like it should. Highly, highly, highly recommended for anyone with a 7AT. It'll be in general systems in the next few weeks, but if you can be nice and convince someone to look it up for you, you might get it early...

vertigo - did you upgrade from A to D, or were you not on any iteration of 027 at all?

Thanks

I wonder if its possible to get Nissan to program the transmission as if it were a 370z.. Same transmission but it works so much better in that

Just sharing that I had the base 027 flash, when I inquired at the time if rev C had any improvements, was told that rev C just expanded years and models applicable. Not sure about rev D. I have a standing question everytime I go in for servicing, is there a new rev out there that addressed harsh down shifts. News of revisions appears to come out faster in this forum than the dealers get.

Is this needed even for a car built around April 2012? My 7AT lags and causes horrible drone in my stillen exhaust driving up hills and around town. Nobody else in the exhaust forums seems to have this problem with the Stillen exhaust. I've noticed it's because the tranny stays in such a high gear most of the time. If I manually shift the exhaust sounds way better, but if I leave it in D or DS it just stays in such a high gear that the engine creates a really annoying low droning sound because it's in too high of a gear. Also, it won't shift until i practically floor it.

FYI - I just rented a 2013 G37 7AT from Enterprise on a business trip and they have not fixed this transmission problem. The lag is BAD and I can't believe the lack of smoothness in the shifts. I'm preaching to the choir, but other than the transmission issue, IMHO it's a really fine car that I wouldn't hesitate to buy. I'm currently working on a project at the Nissan/Infiniti HQ in Nashville as a contractor and know firsthand that Infiniti management is fully aware of the G and M transmission problems. They just shake their heads and say things like "And they wonder why we can't hit sales objectives".

Is it possible for you to get a copy of the TSB?

Is this a completely new flash or is it just the same as C with more model years included?

I got C shortly after it came out but eventually the car started to creep back to its old ways. Its not as bad as BEFORE the C update, but not as good as it was in the week or so after it.

The question that I (and probably lots of others) have is why does the same transmission respond correctly in different vehicles? The 370Z, etc. Why are the problems seemingly unique to the G and the M?

. . . and why are some G37s OK? The only complaint I have is every couple of months I will experience a very harsh 2-1 downshift. I have none of the other problems people are complaining about.

I still think driving conditions, aggressive vs not, etc are coming into play. Mine definitely seems a little peppier if I really lean into it for a few turns. But it does seem to revert pretty quickly if Im babying the car. Maybe its actually working BETTER than it used to, in that it senses "its time to run ***** out" compared to putting around the city. Ive tried resetting the ECU but it never seemed to bring back the aggressiveness the car had in the initial week after the last tranny flash.

Youd figure with more 370Zs out there than Gs there would at least be a few complaints if the tranny wasnt performing correctly. Yet we havent heard of many (if any).

The update is definitely worth it compared to the old. Close to 2k miles later and it still drives like it is suppose to without lag and confused up/downshifts.

Downloaded the pdf of ITB12-027d and it shows the same applied vehicle years as 027c

*2009 – 2011 G37 Sedan and Coupe (V36/CV36) 2009 – 2012 Convertible (HV36)*

It's basically the same document, except at the top of page one it states: "This bulletin has been amended to change the first sentence of the IF YOU CONFIRM statement. Discard and previous versions."

Can anyone explain this?

I had service bulletin ITB12-027C applied to my 2009 G37x last week. FWIW, my observations:
  • I walked into the service dept. with a printout of the actual service bulletin in hand, so they didn't question the need or hesitate to perform the service.
  • The transmission is much nicer to drive after getting the update. The awful lag is completely gone, as are those ridiculous rev-matched downshifts. It feels like a "normal" automatic now.

"Don't know Nothin 'bout History; Don't know Nothin 'bout Biology..... But what I do Know is no 2013 G for me...

Judging from the comments above of the results of driving a new 2013 which apparently, incredibly....still has the serious lagging 7AT.

I had the 027 Reflash done as soon as I heard about in in June 2012. It has helped and still exhibits erratic behavior. I have put on over 5K miles since the application of the Reflash, and just recently I started to use the DM mode some more. That mode has definitively been Dumbed Down. I also used the Manual mode occasions, more so than before, and now sense a difference in D mode. It is performing more like it should: seems to be in the "right" gear more, better stop and go in traffic performance, better initial "feel" from standing start, and only occasional, abrupt downshift when coasting.....I have 39K on the car. No service visits or adjustments made, just a sudden response in this manner.
Only thing that I can think of is the ECU / TCM "adapts" to driver input - see all the comments throughout this long, long thread and check the Web Site about the G [drive adaptive control]. Did the DM and manual mode usage, "trick" or Change the mannerisms and behavior in D mode? This does serve to prove to me anyway, "this is isn't your Father's Buick"....

BTW, the new LaCross is on my Short list of new car considerations to replace the G in June 2013. People that I stop to ask about the car, Love It.

If you're looking at a Buick already, why no Cadillac ATS?
