Here is automatic transmission fluid test. I did 3 times a single drain and refill (not flush) at 45K miles, at 66 K, and 78K.
Looks like it works, no issues so far
Well, had my first test. Not happy. Iron levels extremely high. Had car since new, 26k miles at this moment.
It is tuned with few bolt ons. Anybody can provide some insight?
Iron is usually from top end wear or the other parts as they described. What’s the car tuned on ? What are the conditions it’s seeing? Has the knock sensitivity of the engine been adjusted?
Just out of curiosity, I decided to get a used oil analysis from Blackstone Labs on the Mobil 1 0W40 full synthetic oil I have been running in my G37. The results look great. The viscosity is fine and I was recommended an OCI of 9,000 miles. Hopefully this serves to relieve any worries that one might have about using 0w40 instead of the Infiniti recommended 5w30.
Out of curiosity, why the switch to the European formula? Just wondering because I have a bulk supply for my my Mercedes and if I can keep same oil for both cars win win for me
The link above is my analysis on the same weight. I also had good result, also less engine ticking, but I burned a bit of oil and now switched back to 5w30. I wanted to try the 0w40 because from everyone else's report it flows similar to a 30 weight despite it being a 40 and the 0 helped with getting oil circulated around quicker initially, which might be a reason for the quieter noise?
I tend to get really obsessed with things when there's a discrepancy. There was, and probably still is, a lot of debate between 5w30 vs 0w40 and which one is better for engine longevity. I found countless threads that argued that the 0w40 was superior than 5w30. Reasons for preferring 0w40 ranged from "improved shear resistance" to "they use it in the GTR". There's also quite a bit of anecdotal evidence out there advocating that the engine runs smoother and less noisy after switching to 0w40. This thread is what finally convinced me to switch over. https://www.myg37.com/forums/engine-...oncerns-2.html FWIW I have been using 0w40 for the last 15,000 miles.
This might seem like common sense, but how do you accurately determine if there's oil loss? Do you measure the fill and drain amount (in oz?) during the oil change? Looking at the dip stick level does not seem accurate at all...

I usually check my oil once a week on weekend mornings, and I had to add a quart during my usage with 0w40 both Mobil 1 and Castrol Edge, around 3000 mile mark. I switched back to 5w30 and I haven't had to add any oil as or yet, but I haven't reached 3000 miles yet.
