I am glad I am not the only one having this problem. I am at 9K miles, and it happens no matter what the temperature outside is. Its really bad in stop and go traffic, somehow the rev matching blip when shifting into 1st is causing it surge, have to be really careful not to hit somebody in bumper to bumper traffic. I havent seen it happen in past few weeks, but I am taking this print out next time with me.

Taking my G to dealer for this SURGE issue. Also peeps with this issue, do you guys notice when the car is on park the RPM will slowly fluctuate from 950 and jump to 1500 and back down... its happens every 30 secs.I performed a ECU reset already but after a few days the same ish SES light is back on

Since I started this thread months ago, I can report out that after the service and reset, it does takes some time for the car to get readjusted. I am at 9,000 miles and it runs great with no residual problems. Next they will be working on getting that cross control to hold better. Pretty poor right now and not as stong as even the G35.

Does anyone have a PDF copy of this TSB? Post #31 no longer has the attachment. I just called Infiniti of Hoffman Estates that I am experiencing this and got a rather rude mechanic on the phone. I need to bring in a copy. Another post referenced "TSB #VIAITB07-0487-048A", but I can't find a pdf copy anywhere after searching. I have to being it in for the recall notice on the air bag sensor and wanted to get this done as well. It is scary when it happens once in a blue moon! Thank you for the help.

Nothing like a first post. Been reading for 2 years and recently joined. Have a fully loaded G37 (now with 2600 miles) and kept my '03 G35 I bought the second month they were for sale. Needless to say, real familiar w/ the Gs.
I was wondering if anyone has noticed that coming out of a heavy acceleration to a stop, the car seems to want to surge or jump forward. It does not appear to down shift (yes, its a AT) and the idle remains at 950-1050. No, I'm was not in manual or DS. When I take my foot off the brake at a stop, without any acceleration on a flat road, it will get up to 12-15 MPH. It does not occur all the time, but I'm wondering if this is a true problem. It reminds me of the Audi problem that occurred years ago.
Thanks!

My 2009 G37 Journey (7A, 2500 miles) has the same problem. The sudden surge occurs "sometimes" in two situations: (1) When braking gently at a stop light. I can feel the brief push-like feedback at the brake pedal; (2) When going really slow at around 10MPH with very light throttle pressure. The surge sometimes feel like a sudden quick jab and can be scary.
Aside from this problem, my G37 has a front-to-back shimmy at around 36mph when keeping speed constant. This shimmy is much like the one that occurs in a 5-speed when using higher gears at low RPM.
In general, I think the 7A is improperly programmed transmission.

rpm surge
Told Santa Barbara dealer of problem & TSB, but they would not correct since it did not show on their test run. However, I think this random surge caused me to get a speeding ticket when i blew past some traffic going <65 in the "fast" lane and let up at 75 (a couple of seconds later), but the speed climbed to 80. [I think highway patrol guy was also pissed that he could not squeeze smoothly past this same blockage of traffic, whereas I had no problem cutting over. I am now avoiding any freeway speed issues and just enjoying on-ramps, curvy roads, great in/out appurtenances, and great brakes.]
Surge continues to be an one out of twenty situation, I think more often when the car was already warm and restarted? I think gas mileage is down and extra brake wear and extra mental stress is happening. Car is at about 4K miles, Oct,07 build, purch Sept,08. Yes, idle stays up around 1000rpm vs. usual 700 when it happens. Infiniti should make this a recall before someone gets hurt...anyone hurt or in a collision yet? perhaps did not realize this could have been the cause?

^^^Took mine to the SB dealer and they said the timing was a little fast so they fixed it. But when I brake the rpms bounce around. I slow the car down to about 1000 rpms and they jump to about 1200, then back down again until i come to a complete stop. Im starting to think this is normal.
