G37 Surges/Fast Idle
Nothing like a first post. Been reading for 2 years and recently joined. Have a fully loaded G37 (now with 2600 miles) and kept my '03 G35 I bought the second month they were for sale. Needless to say, real familiar w/ the Gs.
I was wondering if anyone has noticed that coming out of a heavy acceleration to a stop, the car seems to want to surge or jump forward. It does not appear to down shift (yes, its a AT) and the idle remains at 950-1050. No, I'm was not in manual or DS. When I take my foot off the brake at a stop, without any acceleration on a flat road, it will get up to 12-15 MPH. It does not occur all the time, but I'm wondering if this is a true problem. It reminds me of the Audi problem that occurred years ago.
Thanks!

I noticed the car idle at over 1000 rpms, which I thought it was a little strange. I haven't experienced the surge forward that you describe. Once I take my foot off the brake I do notice that the car goes, but I wouldn't say 15 mph. I'll take a look tomorrow and get back to you...

I have had a couple of occasions where the engine will race on start-up after I have driven it hard. It lasts about 2-3 seconds and then drops back to normal idle. I have never had it race up on me while driving or not downshift properly. Better have that checked.

Still High Idle
Despite all the recommendations, it still idles fast. Even after cutting the mats lower it still misbehaves. Tried resetting, but no luck. With almost 3000 miles now, maybe I'm starting to see some of the initial problems. Thanks and will update when I visit my dealer.

Is this a studder when you hit the gas from a stop sometimes? My sedan does this after sitting at a light for a minute or two. It will also do it on the highway while cruising at 3K or so, press the gas harder to speed up and you feel a little studder before power. Weird.

I've noticed a surge on several occasions. Almost slide off my icy driveway because of it once.
Also, I've noticed it idling kind of high (above 1k) sometimes even when warm. It would idle down when I shifted into N though.

I had noticed this on my G as well. It would happen when the (AT) transmission was down shifting on it own (when slowing down in traffic).
I have had my G gowing on 2 months now. It does not happen anymore. It happened for the first month. Maybe it was the breakin' in period. I now have 2,500 miles on it, and i would say since 2,000 miles on forward, I have not felt that push.

Yeap, defintely tends to surge more during colder conditions, I have noticed that as well now that you brought it up. I reckon I will get the ECM flashed during the next scheduled maintenance.
