Thoughts on new canned Z1 Ecutek tune

Anyone get this new option and have any thoughts on it? $750 for a tune/license/cable seems like a good deal, wondering if the performance gains were actually there in the off the shelf tune. Also I really would want burbles that they include to be noticeable so any experience with that would be nice to hear about as well. Thanks!

No personal experience but I did email them about the differences between their UpRev and EcuTek tunes. Support basically said get the EcuTek as its better if I do additional modifications down the line. I asked some detailed questions about the differences and if they have any dyno numbers and support just danced around the questions. I can't say I'm happy with the service I received.

Depends on what your goals are with the car and how much you want to spend but I would consider doing a dyno tune or a e-tune with a reputable shop. Unless you want "better" but not "great".

Thanks for the input. I have an email out to them as well waiting on a response. I was primarily interested in their tune in the first place because the $750 for my current light mods and a burble tune is a good deal, plus I could go to level 2 for $200 if I got more mods down the road. I was looking at other tuners but like $1100 for a remote tune with the mods I have right now just doesn't make sense.

Ecutek is the way to go. Make sure you ask about RaceROM which gives you full tuning access. Ask about how will they do the tune. Unless you can take it to a dyno and electronically send them files it will have to be street tuned by them electronically.
Theyll flash it with a stock map, you make passes, you log these passes and then email them to them. They'll send you modified ones which you will program your ecm with then lather rinse and repeat until they say enough.

I just purchased the level 2 tune from Z1 over black friday weekend. I have been very happy with the results of the tune & Z1's help throughout the whole process. My only complaint is that the app has kicked me out two times now randomly. The first time i had to delete the app and reinstall it, which deleted everything i had saved. Data logs, dashboards & tunes from Z1. the second time was this morning on my way to work. it suddenly closed the app & i have been unable to get it to relink with my car & i havent been able to access the app. This is not Z1's fault & they were more than happy & helpful to help me get it sorted the first time. What i dont like is spending 850 for the level 2 tune and im having issues like this with the app. If it werent for the glitches with the app, i would be 1000% satisfied with the upgrade. I would tell anyone with a infiniti to get the ecutek tune from Z!

Dont do burbles/pops/flames please.

Eventual use of this will kill your exhaust gaskets which will lead to a leak and eventual flange warp. It'll wreak havoc on any resonator with fiber backing, (definite no on cats), mufflers, etc.
These burbles and pops will also waste a bit of fuel which some will end up in the oil.

Cool to have regardless, you dont even have to do it all the time either however in time this is how they ALL end.

PS: they are all the same, differences between all three is how much fuel is dumped + type of cutoff + time of event used to obtain the burble/pop/flame.

Not sure yet...

I just recently got the stage 1 evotek tune from z1. I wasn't expecting much because all I have are k&n drop in filters. I was expecting something though. I plan on doing the z1 3in intake this summer which is why I got it now. I'll be doing the stage 2 when I do the I take. I really don't notice any change at all. Also, based on my Dragy, my 1/4 mile time and 0 to 60 are actually slower. I'm gonna keep going with it though, hoping the intake makes a bit of a difference. Also, the burble setting doesn't really work for me. I guess you have to feather the throttle as the rpms are coming down.

One quick way to find out is to connect to ECUTEK and look at your air fuels as you go wide open throttle. You want to be between 12-13.4 anything higher will be too lean, anything lower will be too rich. This is what I'm expecting you'll see either too rich or too lean and could benefit from an actual tune.

Understand that Z1 tunes on the precaution side so your feels and or numbers might not match with others. Nothing wrong with this but if youre expecting more you might have better luck with having someone actually touch the car.

There are some pretty basic considerations about getting your car tuned. One is, tune after you're done with bolt-on mods. And two, a canned tune will never be as efficient or effective as a custom tune. The only other advice is to temper expectations, but that's almost unrealistic, so I'll just say GL.

Two years ago (almost to the day), I started in on a project to get my car tuned. It was not a quick project... lots of things to learn (and eventually forget, LOL)

You are right. It was reading around 11.5 at WOT. Is it good to run like that or would that be an issue?

11.5 is on the rich side. These cars do better closer to 12. You should pull the filters out and go for another run and monitor AFRs. The filters should allow more air into the engine and should lean out the mix a bit.
It's a complicated result. You'll think the car is benefitting from no filter but in reality the leaner mixture is what will have you dancing.
They do it this rich to prevent any leaning issues, this is why you barely notice changes. I ended up getting a custom Etune from RsEnthalpy and started at 12.0, did some filter mods and I'm at 12.3 now at WOT.

Do your best a learning these numbers as they will aid tremendously in diagnosis. This is the language of tuners, a "my car feels like is running rich, it smells like fuel" to I'm getting 11.8 during cruise and 11.5 at WOT" is much more spot on and give the tuner much more info to work with.
