Also, these oil filter sockets. Do they differ in size depending on the model? or should there be one generic size that fits most/all infiniti vehicles? would I inquire about this at a nissan/infiniti dealership or can I pick one up at any auto parts store? where did you get yours? Thanks
Doesn't the filter on the vg37 attach horizontally?
Yes, that would be correct
I just use my hand to loosen the filters FWIW, if you need a wrench you've over tightened it
But I use those grippy mechanics gloves so that helps since I'm an old fart.

Good to know. Maybe I will just hold off on getting the oil filter wrench for now.

My cheapy latex gloves don't have a good grip. I use a socket to get it off, same to snug it up slightly.
Thanks for the explanation and the picture landshark. Much appreciated. So the drain plug can only be located by "feel"? Wouldn't that make it somewhat tricky to get it threaded back in and torqued properly? Thanks
no, you reach under and just feel the right side of the oil pan to locate it.

there are different sized ones, and "adjustable" ones. i accumulated various sizes over the years for different cars, and happened to have one that worked. all local auto parts chain stores have them, probably Walmart, too.
