Find my DIY on the fluid pump. It will make this job a lot easier and you will use less fluid because you are not losing any through the fill hole on each fill

aside from doing the fluid, make sure you car has the latest transmission updates.

How do you check or do the latest transmission updates?

3x drain and fill leaves esentially none of the original fluid. The amount diluted in the fresh fluid will be inconsequential

Would you recommend a transmission update after the transmission fluid change?

Doesn't matter when you get the update.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but when you say 3x D&F are there 3 different nuts to drain out and refill? I'm just confused at that part.

Read the beginning of this thread. You drain it, fill it and idle for 3 minutes to mix. You do this 3 times and then you check the fluid level. It's all in the DIY

Performed another drain/refill yesterday to get in sync with the maintenance schedule I had put together just over a year ago. Had to space out different jobs as to not be overwhelmed in a one given year.

Anyway, in search for what ATF to use this time I had realized we now have quite a bit of options. Aside from Nissan OEM, Amsoil and Valvoline brands, turns out Pennzoil and Castrol also have Matic S approved/recommended ATFs. I went with Pennzoil this time around because of availability and decent price of $6.48 right from the store shelves.

Thank you Victory for suggesting the fluid pump. That's what I used this time and it does make job easier. Let me just suggest to get at least 1.5 gallon bottle. That way you don't have to stop and refill the pump in the middle of filling your transmission. Mine is 1 gallon (4qt) which is not enough to pump full 7qt or so.

Took the vehicle for a spin after doing the flush and I can't tell the difference between Pennzoil and Amsoil I had in the transmission before. According to MSDS Amsoil is actually a PAO fluid which may be better if you are tracking your G37, but I am not doing that, so regular full synthetic will be more than enough for me.

Definitely a lot less shiny metals this time around. Almost non-existent. But that's expected unless transmission has a mechanical problem.

From the maintenance log I keep:
Replaced transmission fluid, following same procedures as before, only performing total of 2 drains and fills instead of 3. Started with cold vehicle after it has been seating overnight. Drained 6.5qt on first drain and filled with close to 7qt. Ran vehicle for 3min using phone stop-watch to time and cycled P->R->N->D and back keeping in each position for 20 seconds. Held brakes firmly with parking brake also engaged while cycling the transmission. On a second drain 4.5qt of fluid came out. Refilled with 5qt. Started engine while vehicle leveled and cycled transmission like before for the first 3min. Then left vehicle running while transmission in P. Removed transmission fluid level plug. Fluid started running out then began to drip within 1 minute. Kept engine running and plug open for about another 1 minute while checking the temperature of transmission in different parts with infrared thermometer. Fluid kept dripping. Closed the level checking plug once temperature was showing from 95 to 105 F depending on what part of transmission temperature was taken from. Turned off the engine.

Nice update, and also a big thanks to Victory for his fluid pump DIY, I may look into that, although my wife is still willing to help so ???

Nice to hear there are other ATFs that are getting Matic S grade compatibility. The Valvoline Maxlife ATF has been performing well. We took a trip to Vegas last week where it was up to 115 degrees (temp in the cabin showed up to 123) and the shifts were remaining solid & crisp. Prior to the ATF service we had a trip out there in similar sweltering conditions and the AT was a lot more indecisive, and for lack of a better word "slushy".

BTW, what determined your latest service, was it miles, or just something you wanted to do to compare fluid from last service, and are all your future services going to be a 2x D&F along w/ pan drop & clean?
