DIY: Whiteline Differential bushings
#106
I have acquired a diff (migrating to vlsd and 3.69FD) and am about to go the same route as detailed so awesomely in TVPostSound.
I like the finned Nismo cover and wondered, did you need the additional breather tube and mounting bolt I see Z1 and others offer up or could you just re-use what existed already on your oem diff? I noticed in one of your pictures the diff cover with the breather tube still in the pkg from nissan and that you used what looked like a new mounting bolt, so i assume you ordered both up. Thanks for your time and any insight you can provide.

I'll be replacing the diff bushing soon. I am making a list of parts needed for this job.
1. Are there are any exhaust gaskets that I should be replacing when I button it all back together?
2. Are there any bolts that known to be troublesome (i.e., break)?
EDIT (07-15-2015):
I can answer my questions above.
1. The exhaust gaskets are stainless steel looked fairly good when I removed them. Blnewt (Brad) mentioned they're beefy and can be reused. I would agree despite having what appears to be an exhaust leak (will be checking bolts and seating of flanges at the front of the center muffler soon).
2. All the exhaust bolts needed to be replaced. It's a rough life for a car in the rust belt :P. M10x1.25x35mm works well, 30mm ought to be fine as well.
Replacing the exhaust bolts is not pleasant. After dropping the center muffler, we used an angle grinder to cut the stud flush to the exhaust flanges (did this on both sides). After this, we center punched, drilled a small hole, and stepped up the drill bit size. Cobalt drill bits worked better than the crumby titanium or high speed steel bits. Go slow, apply moderate pressure, use some cutting oil, go straight!!! Once the hole was large enough we used a punch and hammer to knock out the outer edge of the stud.
We also broke the the 10 mm bolt holding up the plastic piece covering the sway bar mounts. I used vice grips to remove these. One 12 mm bolt also broke off. There is no access to the rear of this bolt and it had to be drilled out and will be done in the future.

Flipping the bushing
Update:
I just got back from Fast Intentions (New Exhaust), took a 35 mile drive. With the window open!!!!!
Exhaust sounded great, something was not feeling just right.
There was a phasing feel/sound in the car.
Further investigation, revealed the exhaust pulses were out of sync against a driveline vibration.
I never felt that before!!!
Long story short:
I decided to alter the position of my differential bushings, with and without the "top hat" washer.
Bottom line:
I ended up with the thicker bushing on top, thin bushing on bottom using the large washer, with no top hat washer above the top bushing.
With the old exhaust, I though I just had a little NVH.

Just finished installing my whiteline differential bushing. I also replaced my differential cover.
Front two differential bushing in this order = large bushing , thin bushing, washer.
Did not use top hat or rubber insulator. I did not hear any NVH or vibration so far.

I don't want to deal with the issues with pinion angle & top bottom bottom top washer no washer bs for the diff. I only want to install once & not have to play with bushing mounting to fix it
If the frame one is the one that leaks & goes bad I want to just replace that 1.

i'm with this guy.. can i not just use the rear and keep the oem ones up front?
btw.. whats "NVH"

I did the z1 dif upgrade with the cover and whiteline bushings. I thought i may be able to remove the rear crossmember bushing with a puller kit but was very unsuccessful. There is no way around cutting the old bushing out of the crossmember with a sawzall. I thought that I would add this just in case someone else had the idea to use a puller kit like i did

Hey everyone,
So I have a EX35, which just blew the rear diff bushing and leaked silicone everywhere. Not too happy about it as I discovered the official fix is to replace the entire subframe.
I did some research and the EX35 subframe is the exact same part number as the G37. While I am mechanically inclined, I dont think I can handle this job myself.
Is there anywhere in San fernando valley in So cal that is a nissan/infiniti specialist/general mechanic that would be able to perform this job for a nominal fee?
My usual indy mechanic says he wouldnt be able to this job. So looking to see if I can find someone experienced in this issue do it..
