Thanks for checking it out and coming back to explain it Veloz G.

Now that we know it will work installed normally or upside down without the upper stopper, I wonder if there's any benefit or disadvantage to installing it one way or the other?

The rubber washers are dispensable.



BB

The only downside to the Veloz installation is more diff movement under torque.

The upside is that it might create a better cushion for noise!!

Here are my follow-up results of the two WL bushing configurations on a 2009 G37 Sport Coupe 6MT:

Thin top/thick bottom bushing w/ metal top hat washer b/t chassis and thin top bushing: very minor acceleration rumble. The rumble is not loud or intrusive but it is there.

Thick top/thin bottom bushing: No acceleration rumble...noise level most similar to OEM bushing. I'm sticking with this!

Addition of the metal top hat washer (upper stopper) to the thin top/thick bottom bushing config. reduced some of the acceleration rumble but not all of it.

All bolts were torqued to OEM specs (74 ft.lbs). The rubber washer (lower stopper) was omitted in both configs. This is my personal vehicle and is in stock form (tires and suspension). It has had a relatively dull life compared to you guys and has never been tracked, abused or in a collision. Hope this info helps folks.

That diagram (That you removed) is from energy suspension, which make a completely different thickness bushing.

While this way works for you , it shouldn't be intended for everyone, all others have had positive results from the Whiteline instructions.

You might have a separate driveline issue that was resolved by going against the instructions.

The thick on top should not be the norm, only an alternative, if one has a vibration.

Anyone know the torq specs for the half-shafts to the differential off the top of their head? Or the driveshaft to the pinion?

54 and 63 ft/lbs respectively. Off the top of my head.

Think I'm going the recommended bushing set up with the metal top hats... Minor noise doesn't worry me, and thats what it calls for.

All done. And went with thin tops, thick bottoms for the front mounts with the top hats installed

You will notice, as I have, there's less give during initial acceleration.
It's actually preventing some torque loss, that my slip light blinks a little more from a stop. (No, my brake fluid is not low!!)

Cars still on a lift. I'll be test driving it tomorrow and I'll supply some feedback on feel and sound, although to be honest, I didn't really feel anything "wrong" when the bushing failed.

I just came back from an 800 mile round trip, averaging 80mph, and there was nothing abnormal. Really no extra noise. The Michelin PSS transfer more road noise!!

Cleaning my exhaust I found the same leak coming from the bushing. Is there any other damage that can occur by the leaking differential bushing? I don't want to drive the car if it may cause more harm.

I personally wouldn't drive it too far, but my tech did say its a small leak and is fine for a little, but you do want it fixed sooner than later just because if the fluid level did get too low, it can cause some damage. I drove mine to my dealership, but didn't drive it any further than that. Just my .02
