Be very careful messing with the MAF's! In fact if I remember right you should never spray anything on the MAF's.

Awesome write up!

I decided to clean the TB's because I started to notice my car would drop rpms and stall on start ups. My driver side had a small build up but my passenger had a thicker build up.

Now the car turns on without a problem and is more responsive.

Also, it was my first time doing it so don't be afraid to do it guys!

I just completed the cleaning and decided to change the o-ring/gasket while I had everything open. Just for reference the part number is:

Nissan p/n: 16175-JK21A
Gasket- Adapter

Keep in mind you will need two (2) gaskets as they are sold separately.

Hope this helps someone!

Even with the partial clean (moving the butterflys) it was much noticeably smoother driver the next day. .and no more dipping of idle.

yeah, the hex bolt was tight. you can use the hex key & put it in the bolt. hold it in place to not strip the bolt & use a ratchet w/ a 10 or 8 & put on the other end of the hex key & pull or push depending on the direction of loosening it..

wish i would have done this from the get go.. now my lower back is kind of sore...

How easy is this process? I'm having the idle issues at ~27K and need to get this done. The dealer wants ~$250 to do it, and I don't feel like paying that much if it's simple enough. My biggest concern is stripping screws and/or losing them and having to get my car towed or something.

wow, $250 its high. The job seems easy and was going to do it myself but Cerritos Infiniti did it for $129. I was already there so I just let them do it.

follow the excellent write-up & save $$$$

IMO, the hardest part is the removal of the throttle, the 4 hex screws. see pics for easy way of removing it, LEVERAGE

i didn't had an extra hand but read post #230 on how i did it.

enjoy

I cleaned my throttle bodies today. Pretty straight forward. When I started back up, I noticed a few things and would like some feedback.

The battery was disconnected for a bit over an hour.

My radio station presets and navigation stored addresses didn't get lost. But my trip odometer and a few other settings (dash brightness, fuel economy history, seat moving back on shutdown) were reset to default. I also had to do the power window relearn.

Was my ecu reset or not, would it take a longer period of time that?

Also, idle rpm on startup were a bit high (900-1k). I drove it for 20 miles, and it's come down some. I drove it some more, around 40 miles total, and now it's pretty close to where it was before the cleaning.

Before cleaning, my idle rpm was about 625 in neutral and 525 in drive but brake on. Now, I'm at 730 idle in neutral and 625 in drive with brake on.

I'm not sure if I should bother with the accelerator relearn procedures. What are you guys seeing, what's normal?

didn't disconnect my batttery, just have engine off.

my rpm at start up after cleaning was at 2k but went down to 700 or 800 after warming up my car. i usually warm my car up in the morning until rpm is below 1k or temperature goes pass C a little bit. after about 1-2 month, the rpm idle around 600 but no hiccup so the cleaning helps.

the start up still go to 2k but goes down rapidly but it may have something to do w/ the cold weather.

if after a month, if you car is at idle & it doesn't dip below 500 & back up then i think you should be fine. prior to cleaning, my car idle at 600 but dip below 500 sometimes but it dip below 500 & goes back to 600 fairly quickly

sequence:

- remove & clean one side & leave it out to dry
- remove other side & clean & leave it out to dry. while it is drying, put the other side back in since it should be dry. once you put it back, put the other side back in.

all done

Done it today, real simple. Those who are asking people to do it for them need to start somewhere. This is definitely one of those beginner things anyone can do.
