Question Doh!!Cracked mirror on driver side sun visor - help!!!

Yeah, I know, I'm a putz. While changing the light bulb on the driver side sun visor, I pressed too hard on the mirror and cracked it. Anyone know how to remove the assembly that the mirror sits in? The dealer said I had to replace the whole visor which is ridiculous. I'm hoping that I can remove the assembly that the mirror sits in and then just replace the mirror with a new one cut from a glass shop. Much appreciated.

hey thanks for your help solismo..."your" a big help,..anyway, just trying to keep the car in perfect condition. anything broken, whether it's a mirror or other part, would not be perfect at that point.

I'm with you Hiram, I don't even use the mirror but it's annoying to know that the car now has a flaw and I'm not willing to pay $400 for a whole new visor from the dealer.

Solisimo, that's what my gf said about the mirror too..........too funny

Option 1: find one in a junk yard with your same color interior and replace the entire visor with a new one.

Option 2: get any local glass shop to cut you a new mirror with same size and thickness of the one you broke and replace it that way.

Option 3: replace at the dealership.

Hi Black Betty,

I like option 2 but the problem is the mirror is sitting in a plastic housing within the visor. I'm thinking of trying to pop the housing out of the visor but not sure where the clips are located. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

I believe you must remove the entire visor to have it done, I don't recall. There is a thread on it from a long time ago that you may search for to get clarification. Just take the entire visor off, take it to the glass shop, have them break out the broken glass from the housing, and replace it.

i have done this and fixed it for free. I could not find a glass shop with a mirror thinenough. So i wnt to a junk yard and ripped one that was larger out of an old ford winstar. had the glass shop cut it to size. The fun part was ripping abart the visor. Hit remove all the screws you can see. then remove the slide out. then remove the screws behind that. Next part is the fun part. you pull the visor appart. Let me tell you you will think you are breaking it. Like really you really have to pull you will literally think that there is no way it is suposed to come abart this hard or that you left a screw in. But keep at it it will come apart. And you will see how to replace the mirror. You cannot buy just the mirror from infiniti only the whole visor.
